About the job Payroll Specialist We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Payroll Specialist Lead to oversee the payroll function for our organization. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in payroll processing, compliance, and team leadership. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll execution, adherence to federal and state tax regulations, and providing exceptional support to both the payroll team and employees. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the payroll team in processing multi-state, bi-weekly, and/or semi-monthly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees. Oversee payroll tax reporting and payments in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure accuracy of data related to wages, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and deductions. Review, reconcile, and approve payroll reports, journal entries, and financial records. Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated payroll issues and complex inquiries. Partner with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to streamline processes and ensure data integrity. Implement new payroll processes, systems, or software as needed and train staff on best practices. Maintain confidentiality of payroll information and ensure secure handling of sensitive data. Stay current with laws and regulations affecting payroll; recommend and implement procedural changes as necessary. Prepare and present regular reports and analysis to senior management. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred. 5+ years of experience in payroll processing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role. Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and regulations. Experience with major payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, Ultimate Software, Ceridian) required. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and mentor a team. Payroll certification (e.g., CPP, FPC) highly desirable.
