The Accountant performs general accounting duties such as reviewing journal entries, processing daily AP invoices, researching discrepancies between invoices and purchase orders, processing and posting weekly check runs and virtual card payments to vendors, providing assistance with month end close procedures, account reconciliations, sales and use tax research, preparation, and filing, clearing tax exemptions and assisting with other tasks within the department as needed to cover for PTO of other team members. This position is also responsible for performing financial analysis and other tasks as requested from management. This is a 100% in-office position based at the Marking Services, Inc. Corporate Office located in Milwaukee, WI.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily close of open manufacturing orders.
- Point of contact to the sales tax system to ensure timely filing of all needed reports, maintaining the sales tax exemptions, researching unpaid amounts and clearing any taxes charged in error due to exemptions.
- Prepare, process and post all invoices for external and intercompany billings for multiple entities, providing weekly debit memos and updating transaction logs.
- Process weekly payments (Checks/ACH/EFT) for multiple companies.
- Reconcile all checkbooks and cash GL accounts daily and monthly for accuracy.
- Prepare monthly general ledger entries by maintaining records and files and reconciling accounts to ensure accuracy of financial information being reported.
- Properly code and enter all payables for multiple companies.
- Support vendor relations in answering questions related to invoicing and account standing.
- Maintain 1099 data and process year end filings for multiple companies.
- Performs various month end tasks including journal entries, preparing monthly general ledger entries, reconciling accounts to ensure accuracy of financial information, provide financial detail to management as requested.
- Support the compilation of prepaid reconciliations, debt reporting and completing the Revenue Tracker Report for management’s review.
- Generate financial analysis reports for month end reporting as well as any ad hoc reporting as requested.
- Assists in answering accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data, assembling of necessary documents for bank, financial and tax audits.
- Learn duties on the Accounts Receivable side to aid as a backup for PTO coverage
- Maintains high level of confidentiality to ensure organization's competitive edge.
- All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field (Bachelor’s preferred) and/or equivalent, relevant experience.
- Minimum of four years’ experience in accounting.
- Great Plains and/or Business Central Accounting Software experience preferred.
- Exceptional organization and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on detail, accuracy and timeliness.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
There is a minimal risk of injury. Work hours are generally during normal business hours and average at least 40 hours a week. May require additional hours when working month, quarter or year end. Minimal travel is required.
