Summary

In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Finance Branch. MWEOC is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience independently conducting difficult financial reconciliations, use queries and complex Excel formulas to prepare detailed financial reports and possess exceptional analytical and organizational skills.

Duties

All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground.

What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as an Accountant responsible for performing accounting work, including the maintenance of accounting records, analysis and interpretation of financial reports, providing support to accounts payable and accounts receivable teams, and other similar work for program areas assigned. Typical assignments include:

Utilizing an accounting system to track, reconcile, and report on administrated programs and/or appropriations, accounts payable/receivable, salary and benefits, travel, reimbursables, obligations and Treasury reporting. Resolving complex accounting problems and providing guidance and assistance to program managers and operating personnel on all matters of financial management and financial operations. Reviewing, approving, and certifying vendor invoices for payment. Computing, estimating, or predicting changes in operating programs on accounting operations and service, or on operational costs, income, expenditures, investments, etc., for programs assigned.
