What is this career opportunity?
The Local Government Services Bureau is comprised of a team of compliance specialists who conduct reviews of a variety of financial reports, stay current with governmental accounting standards and practices, and provide financial and technological assistance to Montana’s local governments by establishing an environment that fosters innovation, efficiency, and excellence.We continually strive to strengthen local government entities' financial reporting, transparency, and accountability.We seek a unique individual who enjoys research and working with data of all types to improve processes and services provided to our stakeholders.

This position provides key support in data preparation, reporting, results interpretation, and analysis to provide meaningful and actionable insights into accounting data, financial reporting, and policy.Duties include partnering with internal stakeholders and consulting external stakeholders to gather data from multiple sources, run analyses, and interpret results to provide trends, patterns, inconsistencies, and areas of potential improvement. Familiarity with accounting concepts and practices, statutory rules, and best business practices, as well as applying accounting functions and utilizing automated accounting systems, is preferred but not required.

What are we looking for?
 Competencies:

·Ability to translate requirements/requests from subject matter experts into data analyses that present insight to support decision-making and accurate financial reporting.

·Reporting capabilities with experience extracting data from multiple sources/ERP systems.

·Demonstrated Excel skills with the ability to create complex spreadsheets (e.g. Vlookups, pivot tables, formula writing, power queries, charting, etc.).

·Experience in requirement gathering and analysis, user stories, and data cleansing.

·Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.

·Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills focusing on process improvement and efficiency.

·Effectively work both in a team environment and independently to achieve bureau objectives and timelines.

·Ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing conditions and responsibilities, working on both urgent requests and longer-term projects.

·Knowledge of principles and practices of information systems analysis, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and security-related functions.

·Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and/or financial statement and note disclosure preparation and presentation is a plus.

Education and Experience:

·A bachelor’s degree in information systems, data analytics/science, accounting, business administration, or other related field of study; and

·Two years of applicable job experience.

·Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
