Summary This position is located in Field Operations Directorate, Office of Field Operations, District 24, Hialeah Field Office. As an Immigration Services Officer, you will adjudicate complex and precedent setting cases, provide oversight to lower level Officers and perform analytical and evaluative work associated with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) program activities. Responsibilities Adjudicating complex cases, conducting security checks, identifying fraud, interviewing applicants and petitioners, ensuring program quality assurance, conducting training and liaising and communicating decisions. Analyzing the effectiveness of existing and proposed standards, regulations and policies. Assuming authority on the adjudication of cases involving national security and egregious public safety concerns Independently conducting legal research and preparing briefs, position papers, legal decisions and opinions, notices of intent, notices to appear in removal proceedings and motions/responses to the court. Developing standard operating policies and procedures designed to detect and prevent benefit fraud and monitor progress to determine if objectives are being met. Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas. Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year. Qualifications The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/28/2024. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/28/2024. GS-13: You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Making final determinations on complex and sensitive immigration cases; Reviewing immigration cases for fraud and national security concerns and rendering decisions; Providing training, coaching, or mentoring to ensure quality and consistency in the immigration adjudications process. This is typically provided through a blended approach of virtual instruction followed by in-residence instruction at a training venue. Training must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position.
