Desktop Analyst

General Statement
Under supervision, configures and installs software; maintains and troubleshoots software and hardware; and maintains related documentation in accordance with core end-user technology standards.
Essential Job Functions

Deploys/installs applications to desktop environments. Troubleshoots and resolves user applications issues typically using standard methods or checklists; reports more complex problems and anticipated issues to supervisor; documents problems and resolutions. Assists with scheduling, testing and coordinating systems upgrades and improvements via application of patches. Contributes to user accessibility, stability and security in accordance with District policy standards. Contributes to core documentation, including manuals for standard operating procedures, best practices or mitigation plans.
Other Job Functions
Participates in testing, evaluation and implementation of prototypes of new products and services. Provides training to users on-site. Provides after hours and weekend support when required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment including computers.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of desktop operating systems, including software package development, configuration management, patch testing and networking. Considerable knowledge of desktop hardware including PCs, tablets, mobile devices and thin clients. Skill in technical writing, documentation and script writing. Active listening skills. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science or a closely related field.
Substitution
Full-time paid experience managing and/or supporting desktop enterprise solutions may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A Microsoft MCITP, MCSE or VMware VCP certification related to desktop or client support may be substituted for one year of the required education.
Promotional Requirement
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or a closely related field. One year of service with the District as an IT Support Analyst II, IT Support Analyst I, Systems Support Specialist II, Administrative Assistant, Administrative Specialist, Human Resources Assistant, Secretary or Senior Administrative Specialist. Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.-
