About PROV

Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) is the archives of the State Government of Victoria. We hold around 100kms of hard copy records and 600,000 digital records dating from 1836 right up to the present day.

Our impressive collection includes records of immigration and shipping, criminal trials and prisons, premiers and governors, royal commissions, boards of inquiry, wills and probates and much more. These records hold stories of the key events and decisions that have shaped the history of the State of Victoria. 

Established under the Public Records Act 1973 our objectives are to:

About the role

The Manager, Standards & Policy manages a small number of staff who develop and review PROV standards, specifications and policies for Victorian public sector offices and provides guidelines and tools to assist with their implementation. This role has a strong focus on digital recordkeeping and how to work with industry and public offices on improving systems and practices. The position provides expert policy advice to senior management at PROV, to Victorian public sector agencies and to commercial service providers with particular regard to complying with the PROV Standards, including Victorian Electronic Record Strategy (VERS) requirements .

The Manager, Standards & Policy designs and undertakes initiatives to identify recordkeeping issues and trends and measure recordkeeping performance across the Victorian public sector. This includes managing PROV's Recordkeeping Assessment Tool (RKAT), an online self-assessment tool designed for Victorian public sector offices to use to assess their information and records management maturity. The Manager investigates recordkeeping compliance issues and recommends actions to PROV management.

The Manager, Standards & Policy position is an external facing role responsible for the delivery of complex advice to a diverse range of clients across the whole of Victorian government. The position liaises with a range of individuals and organisations with varying levels of seniority, expertise and records management maturities to deliver advice and ensure compliance. It participates in a range of working groups and forums and delivers presentations at industry events. It seeks opportunities to provide input into government and industry strategies and policies and to partner with other bodies on projects and initiatives designed to improve government recordkeeping. The Manager must adapt their approach and communication style accordingly to ensure the message is engaging and is understood.

This is a high demand role with tight resourcing. It involves juggling multiple projects whilst leading small project teams. The position manages staff to deliver PROV outcomes and priorities and mentors internal and external staff to develop relevant skills and expertise.

Our hybrid working model requires attendance in the office at least 1 to 2 days per week, which includes one of our anchor days (Tuesday and Thursday).
