Charlottesville, United States Commonwealth of Virginia Full time
The University of Virginia’s Office of the Provost seeks a Project Director for the pan-university Gun Violence Solutions Project.

The project brings together faculty, researchers, practitioners, students, and community members with the aims to better understand and reduce gun violence. One of the primary areas of focus of the project is to reduce gun violence in the local context, with the aim that the development of solutions and assessments of interventions in the Charlottesville and Albemarle County area will enable a national conversation about what localities can do to confront the problem of gun violence.

The director would manage, facilitate, and coordinate various activities of the project, ensuring collaboration of several schools and units across UVA, along with local and national community partners. The project director is also expected to be a thought partner with university leaders and key stakeholders regarding the overall vision and implementation of the project’s plans and activities. This role reports to Megan Barnett, Vice Provost for Academic Initiatives, University of Virginia.

The UVA Gun Violence Solutions Project (GVSP) is a university-wide effort to address the issue of gun violence. The project has been initiated through a collaboration among the President and Provost offices and UVA’s School of Law, the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, the College and Graduate School of Art & Sciences, the Equity Center, and the Karsh Institute of Democracy . It aims to develop solutions at the local level and support research and teaching around local interventions and legal and cultural issues surrounding gun violence.

Working closely with these key stakeholders, the project director will help faculty, staff, students, and community partners develop and carry out the initiatives of the GVSP.

The GVSP has several activities ongoing or planned in different schools and units at UVA, and the Project Director would ensure these activities are supported and remain connected and integrated with each other. The director would also ensure that these activities meet established goals, timelines and/or deliverables and are aligned with the broader vision of the project as a pan-university effort. The units and activities currently supported by the GVSP, include:
