The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Lab Technician 2 to work in the lab of Dr. Wenpeng Liu.

Lab and Research Technician 2 employees provide increasingly complex technical support for projects and may engage in increasingly complex scientific experiments. May handle more sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks. Lab and Research Technician 2 employees operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities include:
Perform research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or other senior lab members, such as postdoc researchers. Experimental work includes molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, and live cell/fixed cell microscopic imaging. Maintain lab inventory and order general lab supplies and prepare buffers and other common shared reagents, help with the overall laboratory maintenance for a safe and clean workspace. Train new lab members for general lab techniques and lab safety regulation. Participate and present research progress in regular lab meeting and journal club. Attend departmental seminars and national scientific conferences. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum qualifications:
Education: Associate's degree

Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.

Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in biological science and at least 2 years of previous experience including working in labs as student. Basic cell biology and molecular biology skills. Experience with microscopy, cell culture, bioinformatics and protein purification would be beneficial. Ability to draft routine reports and keep accurate and detailed records of work performed.
