Associate Nurse Unit Manager- Mental Health

Full Time Permanent position –80 hours per fortnight with ADO
Develop your clinical skills in an acute mental health in-patient unit Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary teams

Based at John Cade Acute Adult Psychiatry Ward at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus, this position offers post registration experience as well as the clinical, further educational and on-going training support to enable the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to further develop their clinical skills for work in an acute mental health in-patient unit.

As part of Pathway 144, a Mental Health Royal Commission recommendation, 2023-2024 will see the John Cade Unit undergo a Bed Expansion, opening an additional 20 beds to our current service. There will be the introduction of several refreshed spaces that will be added to our environment to better support the diversity of people who enter the service and provide more access to outdoor spaces and additional amenity. As part of this new build, we are undergoing an expansion of our leadership team to support consumers and staff in this high paced environment.

Your new role:

The ANUM will be responsible for co-ordinating the treatment and care of consumers on a shift-by-shift basis, and ensure care is delivered in accordance with relevant professional, area mental health service, and Melbourne Health values. The role also incorporates co-ordination of bed access and management, fiscal and staffing resources, and multidisciplinary services on the ward. The ANUM is a member of the multidisciplinary team who works closely with patients and their families to achieve positive treatment outcomes for individuals who have experienced serious mental illness.

About you:

You are an AHPRA Registered Nurse with ward experience and are willing to work on a rotating roster, within our supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team. You are able to demonstrate a commitment to ensuring patients understand and maintain the best possible physical health. You possess an understanding of the most effective delivery of Evidence-Based Practice You have sound knowledge of, and demonstrated skills in, risk assessment, mental state assessment, and person-centred care planning. You have effective communication skills and a passion for continued professional development. Capacity to deliver acute mental health nursing care from a Strengths-Based, Recovery-Focused framework. As an ANUM, you will also be required to rotate into the Creating Safety Nurse role, which works intensively with nursing staff focusing on reducing restrictive interventions, Safewards, the management of clinical aggression, and supporting staff safety and wellbeing.
