The Department of Cardiology at Austin Health is committed to providing quality and compassionate care to patients with all forms of heart disease. The department has a strong clinical, teaching and research focus.
A state-of-the-art diagnostic area (5 North) with adjacent recovery area supports the 2 cardiac catheterisation laboratories and various non-invasive laboratories. A day recovery area contains 12 monitored beds for patients undergoing elective day procedures. The cardiac catheterisation laboratories provide the full range of interventional coronary, electrophysiology and structural heart procedures.
The inpatient clinical service is located at the Austin Hospital and comprises a ward support (Ward5 East) with 32 dedicated cardiac and thoracic beds, including a 12 bed cardiac high dependency unit and ambulatory monitoring.
About the role
The Nurse Unit Manager is recognised as the leader of the nursing team who models the core values of Austin Health through effective leadership and management of the clinical nursing and support staff within the ward]. They are responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence based nursing care that meets professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards in order to optimise health outcomes for the community.
On 5North, the NUM completes a small amount of clinical workload on addition to management responsibilities
The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for fostering a positive culture, driving change, a safe working environment and the effective utilisation of financial resources within a cycle of continuous service improvement.
