Job Summary

The Loudoun County Department of Family Services (DFS) is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical individual to join our Finance Team as a Finance Operations Supervisor. The Finance Operations Team processes all department supplier payments and manages all processes and reporting for accounts payable transactions. This position will supervise two Accounting Technicians.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Reviewing financial documents for accuracy including purchase order requisitions, invoices, and payment requests. Reconciling general ledger accounts. Researching and analyzing accounting discrepancies. Processing grant renewals and complex drawdowns. Monitoring budgetary revenue and expenditures to ensure that Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are followed. Managing the year-end Accounts Payable close process. Preparing audit work papers as needed in support of local, state and federal audits. Evaluating internal controls, providing policy reviews, and documenting processes. Coordinating with interdepartmental liaisons. Coordinate with Program Managers and Finance Manager to ensure accountability and compliance with County fiscal policy, federal and state guidelines and County adopted budget. Training intra-departmental contacts on processes. Supervising Finance Operations team, completing appraisals, and approving timecards. The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks. Collaboration is key, as this position will work closely with a variety of team members to achieve common goals. The ability to cultivate relationships, both internally and externally, will drive success in this role. Additionally, you'll be responsible for developing/updating a comprehensive training program, documents, and policies, leveraging analytical skills to assess and address organizational needs effectively. Critical thinking is crucial for this position, enabling the evaluation of complex situations, problem-solving, and making well-informed decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; three (3) years of related work experience in professional level accounting, preferably in a government accounting setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Governmental accounting experience preferred.
