Job: Test Engineer II

Duration: 12 Months

Responsibilities include developing and executing software tests and documenting results in order to ensure software runs smoothly and effectively. May involve troubleshooting issues and debugging software. May require a bachelors degree and at least 4 years or equivalent experience in a related area. Familiarity with QA standard concepts practices and technologies in the field.

The Test Engineers role is to develop and establish quality assurance standards and measures for the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS). Working within ITS project teams the Test Engineer will ensure quality testing of all inhouse or commercialoftheshelf (COTS) products. The Test Engineer will apply end to end testing practices including writing test cases and scenarios that ensure the delivery of quality software. They will also determine usage of and potentially create automated testing structures.

Essential Functions of the Position:

1) Contribute to quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications products and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles.

2) Ensure testing activities allow applications to meet business requirements and systems goals fulfill enduser requirements and identify existing or potential issues.

3) Analyze documentation of any new application under development or consideration to determine its intended functionality and technical architecture.

4) Creates test plans by translating the business and functional requirements into test cases.

5) Executes test cases to ensure internally developed products COTS solutions or systems meet the approved requirements.

6) Performs or assists in the testing and installation of both inhouse and commercial offtheshelf (COTS) products and applications into environments as required.

7) Collaborate with software and systems personnel in application testing such as system regression and load testing.

8) Makes recommendations on test cases that are candidates for automation.

9) Uses appropriate testing tools to automate integration and user interface tests.

10) Analyze formal test results to discover and resolve defects bugs errors deployment/configuration issues and interoperability flaws.

11) Make recommendations for improvement of applications and/or systems to the Customer Engagement team.

12) Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing applications and systems and develop testing strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.

13) Responsible for defect reporting and provides input to the Manager of Data Analysis/QA regarding release decisions.

14) Advises in the evaluation and solution of highly technical and complex testing functions and features problems and bugs.

15) May peer review testing efforts of other QA analysts to provide feedback and mentoring.

16) Communicate test progress test results and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management.

17) Works with software engineers to ensure QA standards are adhered to including unit testing that promotes quality coding standards.

18) Assist in the development of change control processes practices and guidelines for new and existing technologies.

19) Contributes to ITS IT Service Management (ITSM) system by documenting and sharing knowledge with others to improve customer service across the Department.

20) Attends meetings and training as required.

21) Performs other duties as assigned.
