As an Equipment Operator, you are responsible for operating various heavy equipment in the field. In your role you will also be apart of a team working in maintenance, construction, and repair of stormwater ditch maintenance.   • Transport, operate, and maintain heavy equipment/vehicles and machines such as backhoes, walking excavators, and other related equipment and machines used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of stormwater conveyance systems and their appurtenances.
  • Perform maintenance on county enclosed and open stormwater conveyance systems and their appurtenances.
  • Restore road right-of-ways and properties relating to stormwater maintenance and repairs.
  • Operate specialized equipment, walking excavators, backhoes, excavators, arm mowers, and other related equipment required to maintain and repair stormwater conveyance systems and road right-of-way maintenance/construction.
  • Respond to customer complaints relating to stormwater systems, including pipeline, canal,  ditch blockages, and erosion control.
  • Complete and submit work orders relating to all work performed.


Work Hours:  Tuesday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. * On-Call Required

About You

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent. 
  • Two (2) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of one or more pieces of heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, tractors, etc.
  • State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “A” with Tanker “N” endorsement at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Operation of heavy equipment, such as backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, and sewer cleaning equipment.

Physical Demands: Must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds. 

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Starting Pay: $21.07 (Step 1)

Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.
