As an Equipment Operator, you are responsible for operating various heavy equipment in the field. In your role you will also be apart of a team working in maintenance, construction, and repair of stormwater conveyance and road right-of-way systems. Apply today and spend your days working in your specialty field while enjoying the many benefits that the County offers.- Transport, operate, and maintain heavy equipment/vehicles and machines such as backhoes, walking excavators, and other related equipment and machines used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of stormwater conveyance systems and their appurtenances.
- Perform maintenance on county enclosed and open stormwater conveyance systems and their appurtenances.
- Restore road right-of-ways and properties relating to stormwater maintenance and repairs.
- Operate specialized equipment, walking excavators, backhoes, excavators, arm mowers, and other related equipment required to maintain and repair stormwater conveyance systems and road right-of-way maintenance/construction.
- Maintain equipment and vehicles as assigned.
- Respond to customer complaints relating to stormwater systems, including pipeline, canal, ditch blockages, and erosion control. Issues on and around the road right of way, water quality concerns, and stormwater flow concerns.
- May require physically entering aquatic sites when necessary.
- Complete and submit work orders relating to all work performed.
- Respond to emergency situations as required.
Work Hours: Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. * On-Call Required
Minimum Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of one or more pieces of heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, tractors, etc.
- State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “A” with Tanker “N” endorsement at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Operation of heavy equipment, such as backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, and sewer cleaning equipment.
Physical Demands: Must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
About Everything ElseStarting Pay: $21.07 (Step 1)
Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience.
