Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.
Summary Statement
The Criminal Division seeks a Legal Administrative Specialist to provide clerical/administrative support to Deputy Attorneys General in the Special Victims Unit, in New Castle County. This Legal Administrative Specialist provides administrative support to Deputy Attorneys General and the Legal Assistant (Paralegal) working within the Special Victims Unit (Sex Crimes) in the Criminal Division in New Castle County. This Legal Administrative Specialist sets up and maintains case files, types letters and other various legal documents and assists the attorneys in preparing cases for trial. This Legal Administrative Specialist runs criminal background checks and types petitions, informations, indictments, briefs and memos. Will also be responsible for running and requesting police reports, answering discovery, closing files, maintaining the filing cabinets, and collating and managing busy weekly calendars. Will prepare all enclosures including media format for any legal filings. Standard memos need to be prepared to Court personnel and Office of Defense Services offices. Is required to keep time logs which tracks reports and cases up to date and is responsible for assistance in the maintenance of the unit intake schedule and Children’s Advocacy interview schedule. This Legal Administrative Specialist will also interact with defendants, witnesses, victims, investigators, attorneys, court staff and other outside State agencies during case preparation and completion. In addition, will manage a high volume of telephone calls and will be part of a rotation schedule for the main Receptionist telephones in New Castle County.
Essential Functions

Assures effective coordination of operational functions for assigned unit/attorneys. Arranges for the delivery of legal paperwork. Types correspondence and legal paperwork. Schedules, coordinates, and confirms court dates, appointments, interviews, intakes, and meetings. Establishes tracking and monitoring systems and conducts follow up to ensure timely resolution of matters. Maintains and controls data and/or filing systems to ensure effective, accurate and easily retrievable legal documentation.

OR 1.Five years of employment with the Department of Justice in a similar capacity. OR 1.Six years of experience in coordinating office activities such as planning/coordinating meetings or conferences; tracking workflow and follow up; composing meeting notes; directing clients/customers; explaining services to the public and customers/clients; establishing or maintaining filing/record systems.2.Six years of experience in document processing which includes reviewing and evaluating records for completeness and conformity with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures, resolve deficiencies, interpret information, and track and monitor activities.3.Six years of experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.4.Six years of experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.5.Four years of experience preparing legal documents.6.Four years of experience interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
