Midwest Ear Institute in Indianapolis is offering a fourth-year externship for an AuD. student. We have a team of five audiologists working with a neurotologist as well as a nurse practitioner in a busy practice. Our services include comprehensive care for hearing and balance. We provide comprehensive diagnostic audiometry including immittance, acoustic reflex testing and otoacoustic emissions testing. We have extensive hearing aid services including fitting of hearing aids and accessories. Additionally, we provide diagnostic vestibular testing and treatment of balance disorders, cochlear implant pre-op and post-op evaluation along with programming of cochlear implants.

Our placement offers the motivated AuD. extern the opportunity to become proficient in diagnostic hearing evaluations, VEMP, Ecog, VNG, cochlear implant evaluations, programming and troubleshooting. The student will assist with hearing aid troubleshooting as well as some clean and checks.

We are offering a stipend of $15.00 per hour. The schedule offers approximately 36 hours to the student. Students are expected to have liability insurance through their university program. The externship will begin between June and August depending on the AuD. program. The extern will be supervised by three of our audiologists at two different locations.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: -audiological evaluations (Including understanding of masking procedures)
- basic understanding of hearing aids and programming
- patient counseling for AE and hearing loss
- understanding of anatomy and physiology of the ear including balance system
-basic understanding of balance testing

- understanding of how to perform, analyze and interpret diagnostic balance evaluation
-understanding how to perform pre-op, post-op and programming for cochlear implant patients
The student will have hands-on training with cochlear implants and balance testing. Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern:
