The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, focuses on the discovery of biologic, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and associated complications.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual who can be a productive team member in a highly collaborative, successful drug discovery team in the Diabetes and Obesity research group in Indianapolis. The successful candidate will leverage their strong in vivo pharmacology background and complementary laboratory skills to play a critical role in supporting a lab within DOCTA that drives and/or supports multiple discovery efforts and established pipeline projects with an emphasis on metabolic therapeutics. The applicant must be a task-oriented and self-motivated worker who can perform detailed research studies with minimal supervision, as well as be a team-focused person able to work within the lab dynamics. As such, the applicant will design and perform experiments independently and within team-based environments, as well as interact with internal and external collaborators. The successful candidate will actively participate in diabetes and obesity drug hunting teams by presenting data, as well as serving as a scientific and technical point-of-contact in addition to the principal investigator.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

Conduct acute and chronic in vivo studies in animal models of metabolic diseases, including glucose tolerance tests (e.g., ipGTT), food intake/body weight studies, etc.Perform laboratory tasks, including animal handling, collection of blood (tail clip, cardiac puncture), urine and tissues, as well as measurements of body weights, food weights, and body composition (QNMR).Perform test article formulation calculations and administration by oral gavage and parenteral routes, including subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and occasionally intravenous.Occasional assistance in small animal surgical procedures including, but not limited to, various survival surgeries, notably mini-pump implantation.Perform analysis and interpretation of data from in vivo experiments, including entering data in spreadsheets, performing calculations, graphing, and statistical analysis, as well as presenting and defending data to teams.Maintain accurate records, conduct data analysis, and report data in written and oral formats, including, but not limited to, electronic laboratory notebooks.Conduct work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.Demonstrate pro-active and flexible behaviors (i.e., plans change in response to new data) and develop skills for competency in conducting independent research projects.Minimum RequirementsB.A., B.S. and/or M.S. in biology, animal science, veterinary technology or a closely related field.Proven ability to work in a flexible, dynamic, adaptive, multi-tasking, team-oriented environment. In other words, things change often, and we work as a team to get it done.Flexible scheduling is a requirement. The position is full-time (40 h/week), but not all regularly scheduled work hours will occur Mon-Fri from 8 AM-4:45 PM.
