Duties

As a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist at the GS , some of your typical work assignments may include:

Exercising the full range of supervisory personnel management responsibility and authority in directing the coordination and communication staff.

Implementing the priorities of DR&R leadership and maintaining strong relationships on priority projects with the Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL), Office of Capital Access (OCA), DR&R's Policy, Planning, and Partnerships Division (PP&PD), and executing special projects of a sensitive nature that arise in developing the next stages of DR&R's communication efforts.

Representing SBA in interagency coordination activities related to disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

Analyzing and evaluating interagency disaster response.

Coordinating SBA disaster preparedness, outreach, and coordination activities including developing materials, forming interagency partnerships, and representing DR&R at events.

Coordinating and evaluates all written and oral communications of the headquarters staff going to specific targeted audiences within the media, government, business and community organizations, etc. according to guidelines established by the Office of Communication and Public Liaison (OCPL) and the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs (OCLA).

Acting as a spokesperson and assisting in making public appearances by preparing talking points for speeches. IMPORTANT NOTES:

This is a Permanent appointment in the competitive service with a full-time work schedule.

If required to travel to a disaster site, you may encounter hazardous working and/or living conditions, for example, no water or electricity and/or minimal lodging facilities.

Qualifications

Experience: To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. Average work hours must be stated on the resume to quantify each period of work experience or that experience will not be credited toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

You must address the specific specialized experience required for each grade level of this position on your resume or application or you will be rated "Ineligible" for that grade level.

GS-15: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector. This experience must demonstrate all of the following:

Coordinating with an agency or organization's offices to facilitate the participation of senior leadership in high-profile public events; and

Advising senior leadership of an agency or organization; and

Using established frameworks and/or priorities to work independently to meet time-sensitive deadlines; and

Maintaining communication and/or coordination with the senior leadership/management of other agencies or organizations to provide disaster-related information and talking points; and

Experience in travel/field coordination and special event planning on behalf of senior leadership.
