The Patient Care Technician ("PCT") I Acute position provides acute hemodialysis treatment for the hospitalized dialysis patient in licensed Acute Hospitals or Sub- Acute Facilities contracted with DaVita. This position reports to the Facility Administrator.

CCHT or BONENT Certification required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives patient into treatment/exam area and performs patient data collection; documents on DaVita approved flow sheets.
  • Monitors and documents on DaVita approved flow sheet the patient vital signs applicable to critically ill patients, administers fluid therapy or other appropriate treatments as directed, documents activities appropriately per DaVita policy and / or state regulations
  • Observes Acute Facility policies and procedures for infection control and safety
  • Obtains blood samples per hospital policy and procedure and appropriately sends them to the lab
  • Set ups and monitors dialysis machines and reverses osmosis ("RO") water system for correct functioning, responds to visual and audible alarms and makes appropriate adjustments before, during and after the dialysis treatment, performs safety checks as directed by the registered nurse prior to, during and following dialysis treatment
  • Prime dialyzers, obtains dialysate, and monitor the delivery system during treatments using all alarm systems, settings, and appropriate tests
  • Regularly communicates with Acute Program Office throughout day to confirm assignments
  • Notify the Acute Program Office of inventory and equipment needs
  • Reviews dialysis prescription, notes general physical and mental condition of patient through observation
    and interview, documents observations
  • Initiates dialysis via approved accesses using proper cannulation or central venous catheter ("CVC")
    techniques in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations
  • Performs job responsibilities in hemodialysis upon successful completion of required training as allowed
    per state regulations
  • Perform clerical duties as needed which may include: filing, lab requisitions, scheduling appointments, answering phones, ordering supplies, billing, copying, faxing, data entry, maintaining patient charts

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma, general education development ("GED") credential, Dialysis Technician Certification, or equivalent required
  • Dialysis Technician Certification by a CMS approved state certification program or a national commercially available certification program
  • New to Acute Dialysis or less than 1 year Chronic In-Center Dialysis
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation ("CPR") certification required
  • Certified Nurse Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook; proficiency in all DaVita clinical applications required within 90 days of hire or position change
  • Additional state requirements/ regulations where applicable
