The incumbent is an Electrician within the Maintenance and Repair unit of the Maintenance and Operations Section of the Engineering Service
Possess the ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints, wiring diagrams schematics, operation and maintenance manuals, the National Electric Code, local codes, building plans, and other engineering drawings as necessary to fabricate, install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair complex electrical and electronic equipment

Use trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capacity in series, parallel, and compound circuits to perform minor design, installation, and load balancing.

He or she must be familiar with inductive and capacitive loads and power factor

Knowledgeable in the use of a wide variety of electrical test instruments in order to trace and locate the cause of equipment and control device malfunctions, including multimeters, meggers, etc., and then completes repairs or adjustments based upon the troubleshooting results.

Be familiar with the provisions of the National Electric Code including arc-flash requirements and sufficiently knowledgeable of the code to satisfactorily research requirements or applications.

Possess a thorough knowledge of the operation and installation of a variety of complete electrical systems and equipment.

Maintains and repairs all electrical equipment including transformers, feeders, motors, generators, starters, overload and over current protectors, transfer switches, controllers, and appliances.

Corrects invalid equipment information provided on assigned work orders, such as location of equipment, model, serial number, etc.
Able to operate power hydraulic work platforms.

Skilled in cutting, threading, bending and installation of emt, pvc, rigid pipe, and other conduit systems and a variety of raceway systems, such as wire mold, cable, tray and others.

Requires skills necessary to route and terminate Cat Se or Cat 6 network cable, terminate, and test.

Responsible for the safe installation and operation of all electrical distribution equipment from the Utility Company connection through to the user appliances and the emergency power generation.

Physical Requirements:
Electrical workers at this grade make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires electrical workers him to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Electrical workers frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and, less often, up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds).

Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms.

Working Conditions:


Work is performed inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; in close quarters such as attics; and on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more.

Incumbents are exposed occasionally to the possibility of injury from electrical shock and rotary devices such as electrical motors, and frequently to the possibility of cuts and bruises.

In addition to the working conditions described at grades 8 and 10, grade 11 electricians may be exposed to temperature extremes in test facilities; and to radiation, chemicals, or carcinogens.
