Job Summary: The Artificial Intelligence Analyst IV develops artificial intelligence algorithms or programs under limited supervision to process and recognize patterns in images or datasets for problem solution, outcome prediction, and/or efficiency identification in high complexity research and business cases. Manipulates large amounts of structured and unstructured data. Analyzes and interprets high-dimensionality data sets from disparate sources in order to identify patterns, relationships, trends or interdependencies. Incorporates voice or pattern recognition into technology solutions. Provides guidance, training, and/or oversight to other engaged in artificial intelligence work.
Additional Department Summary: Leads the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI and machine learning solutions to support the center's research initiatives. Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to enhance the IT capabilities for hydrosystem modeling and developing analytical tools that can be used for other scientists in the center. Contributes to the strategic planning and implementation of AI-driven projects, ensuring the development of robust and scalable software systems. Contributes to the planning and design of research and creative projects. Performs supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, and/or performing experiments and initiating creative projects. May assist in both short-term and long-term planning and project goals, as well as in research, proposals writing and dissemination of project findings.
The Center for Complex Hydrosystems Research (CCHR) conducts cutting-edge research to address complex water resource challenges. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, CCHR aims to develop innovative solutions for sustainable water management and environmental conservation. Works closely with Dr. Moradkhani, CCHR director and researchers affiliated with the center across a range of disciplines to develop and implement advanced AI solutions, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and deep learning techniques, to collect, analyze, and visualize water, weather, climate, environmental, and social media data. Applies Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms to extract insights from varied data sources, develop full-stack web applications for data visualization, and optimize computationally intensive tasks for High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. Creates efficient Python libraries, implementing DevOps practices, and utilizing software engineering best practices to solve complex hydrosystems issues. Contributes to research publications and grant proposals, disseminating results through academic channels and open-source software platforms as directed.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of intelligence or machine learning experience; OR master's degree and four (4) years of artificial intelligence or machine learning experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

Skills and Knowledge: Proficiency in AI and machine learning techniques, particularly in natural language processing, deep learning, and Large Language Models (LLMs). Proficiency in high-performance computing (HPC) and optimizing AI/ML tasks for efficient execution on parallel computing environments. Ability to mine and analyze large-scale social media data using API integration and NLP techniques. Strong skills in developing deep learning classifiers, particularly LSTM models for multi-class text classification tasks. Proficiency in making publications in high-impact academic journals, particularly in the fields of disaster management and environmental sciences. Advanced programming skills in Python, with extensive experience using libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, Keras, and TensorFlow. Proficiency in developing and deploying software using CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud platforms (AWS, etc.). Proficiency in front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React) and creating responsive web design. Proficiency in developing data visualization dashboards using tools like Tableau and web technologies. Proficiency in developing Python libraries and creating automated workflows for data processing and analysis. Ability to work with and process various types of environmental and climate data, including remotely sensed products. Excellent communication skills. Ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, teach complex concepts, and translate technical ideas to non-technical audiences. Proficiency in interdisciplinary collaboration and working on projects related to environmental sciences and disaster management.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with hydrology or environmental science research. Expertise in developing and implementing Generative AI solutions and custom AI chatbots. Knowledge of web-based visualization tools such as Tableau. Proven record in writing research proposals, and demonstrated ability of working in a multidisciplinary environment. Experience in developing scientific data management tools/processes to manage large volumes of data originating from remote sensors or other continuous data sources. Experience developing and deploying software in commercial cloud environments (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, etc.). Familiarity with test-driven development practices. Experienced with agile software development. Expertise in data science and analytics, including social media analytics and sentiment analysis. Willing to learn new tools and technology.
