The Geospatial Information Assistant will report to a Geospatial Information Officer.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Geospatial Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Contributes to the preparation of reports based on organizational needs and requirements for reporting and analysis.
  • Supports more senior staff in their work on process improvement mechanisms.
  • Contributes to the preparation of geospatial data sets, being responsible for the acquisition and initial cleaning of data from primary and secondary data systems and documents data sets used.
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of geospatial databases, contributes to geospatial data collection projects products, tools and processes to extend the capabilities of client offices.
  • Contributes to the identification and analysis of patterns in geospatial data sets using various methods.
  • Prepares geospatial data sets upon request; responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
  • Undertakes the installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of geographic information management software on the server and on the clients' workstations.
  • Performs tasks related to equipment replacement/inventory, email and network accounts management.
  • Provides secretarial, administrative and logistics support to meetings, boards, committees, conferences, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Experience in the installation of personal computers in a network is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
