The Sr. Manager, Application Development leads two distinct teams of technical experts in successfully executing technology projects and solutions that align with the strategy and have broad business impact. This individual will work closely with development teams and their SCRUM leads to identify and understand key features and their underlying functionality, while also partnering closely with Product Management and UX Design. They may exercise influence and govern overall end-to-end software development life cycle related activities including management of support and maintenance releases, minor functional releases, and major projects.

The Sr. Manager, Application Development will lead & provide technical guidance for process improvement programs while leveraging engineering best practices. In this people leadership role: recruiting, training, motivating, coaching, growing and developing Software Development Engineer team members will be done at a variety of levels through their technical expertise and providing continuous feedback to ensure employee expectations, customer needs and product demands are met.

About the role

In this opportunity as Sr Manager, Application Development, you will:

  • Manage and provide technical support to technical engineering team across multiple initiatives
  • Develop new approaches to solve somewhat ambiguous problems identified across the software development lifecycle.
  • Leads multiple cross-functional - project teams
  • Frequently interact with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management.
  • Communicates and coordinates with project team, partners, and stakeholders
  • Accountable for the successful execution of technology projects including support and maintenance releases, minor functional releases and major products.
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with key partners, stakeholders and customers to ensure timely and accurate information flow and identification of issues.
  • Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding key competitors' products and differentiating features
  • Socializes and aligns a wide variety of cross-functional stakeholders to strategy, vision, and roadmap
  • Leads through influence to drive results across multiple, cross-functional teams
  • Manages hiring, performance management, and training for the team.
  • Provide guidance and direction; ensures team is focused on the most important priorities
  • Build a global, hybrid, high-performing team, focusing on individual development to ensure professional and organizational success
  • Displays care by supporting others in the pursuit of wellbeing
  • Understand, appreciate differences and recognize how those differences drive engagement and innovation

  • Leads and manages the day-to-day activities of their team including supporting career development of team (objective setting, performance management, etc.

About You

You are a fit for the role, Sr Manager Application Development if you have:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology or related field
  • Extensive experience managing teams with an emphasis on performance management. Ability to lead and develop a team, set and communicate clear goals, and give feedback and coaching to direct reports
  • Experience in leading and supporting technical engineering teams on multiple projects
  • Ability to solve ambiguous problems across the software development lifecycle
  • Ability to lead cross-functional project teams and influence across functions
  • Strong technical skills, including the ability to evaluate and decide on new technologies, manage software development, improve software architecture, and set testing and debugging strategies
  • Strong business acumen, including the ability to understand the project's value proposition for the customer, use critical thinking to make decisions, and prioritize initiatives to achieve team and business objectives
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to influence and articulate a vision for customers and products, align cross-functional stakeholders to strategy, vision, and roadmap, and lead through influence across cross-functional teams
