Description

Advance your career at Liberty Mutual Insurance - A Fortune 100 Company

Liberty Mutual Corporate Tax Department

Libertys highly integrated tax organization provides a collegial framework to achieve results. Typically, professionals contribute across all the key components of tax including planning & research, audits, compliance & financial reporting. In this role you will become a consummate tax professional vs. merely a specialist or tax technician.

The structure of the tax organization encourages and drives collaboration and teamwork. Therefore, you need to be an excellent communicator and execution oriented to succeed. A successful candidate will need to take ownership of key projects and deliverables, as well as manage ambiguity. The ability to be flexible and comfortable with change will also be critical to your success.

Liberty Mutual values a healthy work-life balance for its employees. In line with that, this position offers a flexible work model of two days in the office (either Boston or Seattle) and three days working from home.

Note: This is a hybrid opportunity with compensation dependent on candidates geographic location, overall experience, and skill level.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the federal tax team, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of tax compliance assignments, demonstrating a strong attention to detail.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of tax-related financial statement calculations, entries, and disclosures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting guidance.
  • Perform comprehensive research on tax technical and income tax accounting issues, providing well-documented conclusions in supporting memoranda for management.
  • Develop and implement effective tax planning strategies that add value and enhance the Company's global tax position in a cost-effective manner.
  • Efficiently handle IRS information requests, proactively identifying potential issues and assessing their impact on the Company's past, present, and future operations.
  • Exhibit proactive leadership and active participation in both Department and Company-wide initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and play a leading role in their successful implementation.
  • Stay up to date with current tax laws, regulations, and practices, promptly communicating any changes that may impact the business to management.
  • Act as a mentor to staff members, providing valuable training, coaching, and constructive feedback to support their professional growth.
  • Foster effective collaboration with other areas of Corporate Tax and Finance, showcasing leadership skills in cross-functional initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, Business (or BS degree and equivalent tax or accounting experience).
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in Federal Taxation (financial reporting, compliance, audit, planning) or equivalent, preferably with a major public accounting firm or large multi-national company.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely to both tax and non-tax professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration and engagement with individuals from diverse backgrounds and personalities.
