Metro Transit is recruiting a Fiscal Specialist II who will support its commuter van program. King County Metro's commuter van program leads the nation for having the most public vanpools. Collection and processing fares from customers are an important part of the commuter van program. Rider fares cover 100% of the capital, operating costs, and a portion of the administrative costs of the program.
In this role, you will:
- Process monthly reports - including payments and ridership details from volunteer vanpool bookkeepers
- Match participant payment records supplied by bookkeepers to employer-subsidy records
- Manage data on employer subsidy programs
- Verify and reconcile a variety of financial transactions
- Develop and document processes and data collection and reporting
- Support and partner with Accounting Rideshare Services Representatives, finance staff, and employers
We are looking for a team player who will support 5 Rideshare Services Representatives, who coordinate about 1,000 vanpool groups. Our ideal candidate is detailed-oriented and experienced in completing tasks requiring accuracy, accountability, and outstanding customer service.
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Fiscal Specialist II. In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future career service vacancies that may occur in this classification within this workgroup. The eligibility pool will be retained for 12 months from the date of posting and may be used at the discretion of the hiring authority.

In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles (ESJ) that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work. As a Fiscal Analyst II you will:
- Receive and process emailed and mailed reports
- Prepare checks, money orders, cash, and vouchers for bank deposit
- Enter and balance deposits for more than 1,000 vanpool monthly reports
- Reconcile discrepancies between customer payments, bank deposits, and financial systems
- Resolve non-sufficient/rejected fund, customer, reporting and system issues
- Code and process miscellaneous deposits
- Verify, reconcile, and process financial transactions and prepare reports
- Prepare supporting documents for payments and reimbursements
- Coordinate check requests between Accounting Rideshare Service Representative, vendors, and Accounts Payable
- Create and maintain monthly program and accounting adjustment data
- Maintain contract database, including terminations, renewals, name changes, and changes to terms
- Create financial and operational data sets, analyze data and prepare reports using Microsoft Excel, Access, and Business Intelligence software tools
- Document work processes visually and in writing
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve system and work process issues
- Participate on section, division, and agency team projects
- Manage small projects as assigned

Work Schedule
This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay. Work hours are normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered at the supervisor's discretion.
Temporary Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking and working in the office. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
