Financial Analyst II

will be responsible for the fiscal management of clinical research studies conducted within the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center (IIRC). Works on pre award activities including building and negotiating budgets in accordance with the study protocol, as well as post award activities including invoicing sponsors and auditing research trial costs. Assures accuracy of study budgets and contracts and reconciles study expenditures throughout protocol lifecycle. Tracks progress of clinical trials through the study startup process.

Reports to the Director of Business Operations for the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center. Works closely with IIRC faculty and staff, physicians, and other clinical providers and support staff within and outside of the FHCRC/UW system. Establishes and maintains professional relationship with study sponsors and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities Responsible for the pre and post award management of the IIRC clinical trial portfolio including building and negotiating clinical trial budgets, reconciling trial invoices and working with the pharmaceutical sponsor. Works independently and in cooperation with internal and external stakeholders to direct operations and manage professional relationships with customers (investigators), Center finance, and pharmaceutical sponsors. Accountable for all financial aspects of cellular immunotherapy trials managed by the IIRC clinical research team, ensuring appropriate management of all trial budgets throughout the lifetime of the study.

JOB DUTIES:

Work with IIRC faculty, Clinical Research Support, and Office of the General Counsel to develop, negotiate, and manage highly complex clinical trial budgets, working directly with faculty and staff to anticipate new study support needs and budget accordingly.

Responsible for budget amendments to reflect revisions to study protocols. Process includes submitting budget through the consortium system, revising and negotiating the original budget.

Review invoices from the clinic to ensure that all research items are billed correctly. Work with FH clinical finance to correct any incorrect billings.

Ensure study invoices are submitted, and sponsor payments are received in a timely manner.

Work closely with Fiscal Manager to forecast and track study costs.

Coordinate clinical trial study audit and close-out.

Provide ongoing cost analysis for studies to ensure clinical trials are adequately funded; provide budget information to Alliance Management for negotiation of budget revisions with sponsors.

Manage patient travel reimbursements, cost transfers and track to budget portfolio.

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience.

Minimum of two years of experience in accounting or finance, preferable in a research or not-for-profit environment.

Working knowledge of financial information and related operational statistics.

Ability to develop and perform complex calculations in MicroSoft Excel and Access.

Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to understand complex problems, to collaborate and explore alternative solutions. Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology.

Ability to work independently on multiple projects and communicate status of projects to key decision makers on a proactive basis.

Exposure to grant accounting or project cost accounting a plus.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated familiarity with process improvement principles.

Experience working with REDCap.
