Summary

The primary purpose of the Supervisory Visual Information Specialist is to manage/oversee strategic planning, budgeting, technical updates, functionality improvements, digital asset preservation and delivery, user system adoption, and reporting/analytics for the DAMS. They manage personnel, schedules, and budgets, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in the use, maintenance, and administration of the organization's enterprise DAMS system, NetX.



Duties

As the Supervisory Visual Information Specialist, you will:

  • Plan work to be accomplished by staff; set and adjust priorities, prepare schedules for completion of work; assign work based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty, requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees.
  • Develop staff performance standards; evaluate work performance of staff; give advice, coaching, counsel and/or instructions to employees on both work and administrative matters; interview candidates for positions, recommend appointments, promotions. Hear and resolve complaints from employees, refer group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher level; effects minor disciplinary measures (i.e., warnings and reprimands) and recommends action in more serious cases.
  • be responsible for asset stewardship, including working with stakeholders on implementation of long term of preservation strategies, asset/system migrations, improving integration across internal and external systems, including the museum's website, IIIF and TMS. Provides customer centric leadership for all logistical, planning, and budgetary projects for the DAMS program.
  • Act as the figurehead for system documentation, upgrades, strategic planning, and implementation of best practices for ingest, storage, search, and delivery of assets.
  • Partner with the enterprise architecture team within the IT division to ensure that recommendations for technical direction align with the organization's enterprise architecture and future requirements are considered. Implement DAMS and integration with other systems as necessary. Plans and executes DAMS customizations and testing.
  • Oversee outside vendors and works in collaboration with in-house IT staff to improve NetX user experience and maximize our impact as allowed by budgets.
  • Co-lead and participates in technology evaluations and selections to ensure the use of best practices and the most suitable technologies.
  • Act as a policy coordinator around the National Gallery's open access and open data approach, including working with legal, library, IT and curatorial colleagues to set and monitor policies and procedures, as well as engaging with external standards and industry organizations.
