POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide overall administration, direction, coordination, and integration of the social work program in the targeted region. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, managing and controlling the operations of specific programs within the region. The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative leadership in program planning, development, implementation, supervision and evaluation and provides a social work perspective to policy making issues and decisions.\r

Administrative duties:\r

Sets unit priorities\r
Maintains and completes monthly reports and statistics.\r
Develops and implements staff/student internship training.\r
Attends Institutional, Regional, and State-wide staff meetings.\r
Serves on a special task force and work group as assigned.\r
Ensures social work standards are adhered to.\r
Determines personnel needs and recruits staff.\r

Supervisory duties:\r

Assigns and reviews work of subordinate staff/student interns.\r
Completes periodic evaluations of staff.\r
Coordinates the use of staff among institutions within the region.\r
Assigns and monitors the Release Planning, Group Treatment, and Individual Services processes.\r

Direct service/clinical duties:\r
\r
\r
Provides�individual services on an as needed basis.\r
Leads or co-leads groups during as needed or to provide training to new staff/student interns.\r
Provides release planning services when necessary.�\r
Reviews all completed program records (groups, release plans, individual) for staff directly supervised.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and license requirements to be considered and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire.�\r
Education: Determined by the State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.\r
Experience: Five years of experience providing clinical and therapeutic social work services through the application of the principles, methods and procedures of professional social work, to clients requiring rehabilitative counseling or forensic social work services, including eighteen months of experience completing assessments formulating diagnostic impressions, treating mental disorders and other conditions or providing psychotherapy as a certified social worker-clinical and one year of experience supervising lower level social workers providing clinical and therapeutic social work to clients. \r
Notes: \r
1. A doctoral degree in social work from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the experience. \r
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, or Welfare fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. \r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees are required to be licensed as a certified social worker-clinical (LCSW-C) by the State Board of Social Work Examiners for eighteen months prior to appointment to social work supervisor positions in State service. (COMAR b), effective July 1, Employees must be an approved supervisor�by the State Board of Social Work Examiners.\r

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r
\r

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees are required to meet mandatory standards for continuing education as determined by the hiring department. Employees who fail to obtain the required continuing education credits shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal. \r
2. Employees must complete an approved training program in group counseling techniques. \r
3. Employees may be required to complete the Level I Counseling course of the Maryland AIDS Professional Education Center.\r
4. Employees must qualify for and successfully complete the Entry Level Training Academy operated by the Police and Correctional Training Commissions.\r
5. Employees are required to complete the Correctional First Line Supervisors Training within one year of appointment.\r
