Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of job is to deliver produced by Maryland Correctional Enterprise to customers throughout the state of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Learns how to maintain control and discipline among the inmate workers by enforcing safety, sanitary and security regulations;\r
Learns how to keep continual count of inmates;\r
Learns how to enforce rules of conduct and security and labor standards by issuing verbal admonishments for minor infractions and reports of significant violations or irregularities to superiors;\r
Learns how to remain alert at all times in order to assist in preventing any acts of sabotage or breaches of security;\r
Learns how to provide on-the-job training and supervision of inmates;\r
Learns how to plan and coordinate production operations;\r
Learns how to prepare material estimates, production records and other written reports concerning shop operation;\r
Provides training in work functions of a specific shop and explains the purpose and use of tools, equipment and materials to inmates;\r
Learns how to keep records of materials and supplies used;\r
Learns how to evaluate the work progress of inmates;\r
Inspects completed work and work in progress for adherence to job orders and production standards;\r
Supervises the maintenance of shop areas, tools and equipment;\r
Performs other related duties.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:���Graduation from an accredited high school�or possession of a high school equivalency�certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.\r
Experience:�One year of experience in Automotive Services or related field.\r

1. Specific educational requirements and other selection standards are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in� accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01.\r
2.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience. \r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License.\r
2.�One year of recent (within the last 2 years) city/local experience with driving a Class A vehicle.\r

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Selection standards for Correctional Officer certification are established by�the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with�Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of�Maryland. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland�Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:\r
U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status\r
Must be at least 21 years of age\r
A completed background investigation\r
Oral interview\r
Physical examination.\r
2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations , Testing for Illegal�Use of Drugs. \r
