The University of Southern California (USC) Libraries (Los Angeles, CA) seek an energetic, forward thinking, and experienced information professional to serve as Library Manager, who will oversee the daily operations of the ONE Archives at USC Libraries. This position requires a solid foundation in reference services, specialized collections stewardship, library facilities operations, and a combination of skills and advocacy that will contribute to the dynamic public services and programs at the ONE Archives and USC Libraries.

ONE Archives at USC Libraries

ONE Archives at the USC Libraries is the largest repository of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) materials in the world. Founded in 1952, ONE Archives currently houses over two million archival items, including periodicals, books, film, video and audio recordings, photographs, artworks, organizational records, and personal papers. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Reporting to the Head of the ONE Archives, the Library Manager:

Supervises day-to-day operations of ONE Archives, providing specialized and varied library services; advises the Head of ONE Archives on operational, administrative, personnel and budgetary matters; researches problem issues and takes necessary action to address and bring to an appropriate resolution.Supervises student workers or staff; recruits, screens, hires and trains students or staff; sets attainable and measurable goals with clear deadlines; identifies and reports staffing needsDevelops workflows and coordinates the retrieval and reshelving of ONE's collections materials across departments and offsite storage facilities; ensures the careful handling and delivery of rare and fragile materials; monitors storage conditions and works with staff or administration to address problemsDevelops and implements library policies and procedures in coordination with other managers; ensures that library patrons and supervised staff comply with all applicable library policies and procedures; interprets policies and procedures for library personnel or patrons; maintains currency with library, division, and University policies.Participates in the development of department budget; administers budget; monitors and tracks budget activity; produces interim reports, as neededProvides assistance to library patrons using databases and reference materials and refers questions as appropriate; provides in-person and virtual reference assistance as assigned, including weekends and some evenings; commits to a strong public service orientation in a library and archives setting.Participates in the gathering of library statistics, measurements, and feedback; prepares reports, interprets data, analyzes trends, and communicates recommendationsMaintains specialized library equipment and software; provides or coordinates training on proper utilization of equipment; reports equipment and systems problems to appropriate departments, tracks progress, and communicates status with library staff.Participates in initiatives aimed at enhancing services and resources in line with USC Libraries' commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.Application Procedure: Please upload an updated resume and cover letter addressing the qualifications for this position. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSMinimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree. In addition, candidates must provide evidence of:Three years of experience working in an archive, academic library, or research library setting, with knowledge of library operations, services, and databasesExperience supervising students or staff in a university settingOffice management and budget administration experience combined with specialized knowledge of University policies and procedures, preferably at USCFamiliarity with archival principles and protocols related to the long-term care and management of archival materials, including preservation practices, storage security, environmental controls/maintenance, and proper handling of rare materialsDemonstrated excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skillsDesirable qualifications:Advanced degree in library/archival sciences, or related disciplineFive years of experience working in a large academic, research, public library, or archiveFamiliarity with LGBTQ history and/or LGBTQ studiesExperience using Aeon to manage patron requests and accessExperience using databases such as Archivesspace, Axiell, or Alma to manage location of materials and interdepartmental workflowsKnowledge of current professional library trends, especially those relating to reference for primary sources for a diverse population of users on and off-campusIn addition, the successful candidate must also demonstrate, through ideas, words and actions, a strong commitment to USC's Unifying Values of integrity, excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion, well-being, open communication and accountability.

The annual base salary range for this position is $86, $90,000.
