The Gabriel and Matilda Barnett Information Technology Center and The Asa V. Call Law Library ("Law Library") supports the teaching and research activities of the USC Law community and the greater USC community. It is administered by the USC Gould School of Law. The Access Services Department is an administrative unit within the Law Library.

The Gould School of Law is seeking to hire a Law Library Supervising Assistant who will be part of a dynamic team and will be instrumental in helping us support the teaching and research activities of the USC Law community.

Responsibilities:

Customer service. Works with other library staff to provide in-person services including circulation, library access control, room reservations, and a wide range of student and faculty patron needs. Law faculty research materials. Works with other library staff to obtain faculty research materials, both physical and electronic. Statistics. Assists with collecting and processing statistics, such as circulation, document delivery, and occupancy statistics. Library facilities management. Oversees facilities matters and communicates with custodial and repair staff to maintain the library facilities, which comprise approximately one-third of the law school's space. Performs regular walkthroughs of library facilities to monitor maintenance needs. Backup staffing. Provides backup weekend staffing when regular weekend staff is unavailable; provides occasional emergency coverage, including evenings, when staff or student workers are unavailable. Mail. Checks in, sorts and delivers the library's mail. Interlibrary loan backup. Receives and processes interlibrary loan ("ILL") requests from faculty, students, and law journals when primary ILL staff is unavailable. Library notices. Generates overdue, hold, and recall notices; renews faculty materials and provides lists of checked out items. Loose-leaf materials. This position has primary responsibility for receiving, processing and filing the Law Library's loose-leaf materials. Duties include checking in, filing and claiming materials, maintaining records in the library's catalog, and communicating with vendors regarding replacement materials. Also trains and supervises student workers to assist with loose-leaf filing. Faculty scholarship webpages citations. Maintains citations to faculty publications and other scholarship in proper formatting on the law school website. Library newsletter. Oversees regular production of the library newsletter and other public relations and outreach materials. Procedures manuals. Prepares and maintains various procedural manuals for the department. Student assistant supervision. Works with other library staff to supervise and train the Law Library's student workers, as needed. Reference support. Assists reference librarians with faculty research projects. Provides occasional basic reference services when librarians are unavailable. This position reports to the Head of Access Services. Assists with the law school's final exam administration and proctoring at the end of the fall and spring semesters, orientation, commencement, and other events featuring students and alumni as required, each year Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Reliability. Ability to work effectively and self-motivate, both independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills. Aptitude for accuracy and detailed work. Preferred Qualifications: 3 years' experience working in a library public services department. Familiarity with circulation modules of a library management system, such as Innovative Interfaces' Sierra or Millennium. Experience with document search and retrieval (books, articles, etc.) in library online catalogs and/or OCLC WorldShare. Experience maintaining statistics. Familiarity with facilities and/or building maintenance issues. Experience working with loose-leaf publications. Familiarity with interlibrary loan procedures. Familiarity with library shelving classification systems. Familiarity with Quest or other project management systems. Proficiency in standard office software, especially MS Word & MS Excel. Bachelor's degree, combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. The hourly rate range for this position is $ $28.72.
