The National Science Teaching Association seeks an experienced, highly motivated candidate to fill the role of Director of Sales to join our dynamic organization. The Director of Sales will play a pivotal role in driving revenue growth across the organization, building strong relationships, and identifying corporate sponsorships. This position requires a thorough understanding of sales strategy, the K12 education market, and a passion for NSTA's mission. The Director of Sales will report to the Chief Finance Administrative Officer.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and maintain expertise in NSTA's core products and services, including publications, professional development and other school, district, and state level services.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with NSTA's strategic plan and organizational goals to include corporate and event sponsorship, online media ad sales, business solutions partner program, and other sales opportunities.
  • Builds and provides visionary leadership and strategic oversight for NSTA sales.
  • Collaborates with senior management to align sales efforts with overall mission and business objectives.
  • Coordinates closely with the Senior Director of Communications and Director of Membership & Strategic Partnerships to align outreach opportunities.
  • Works with conference staff and external sales organization concerning exhibitor and vendor sales and registration.
  • Ability to lead and manage both internal sales resources and external sales resources effectively.
  • Create compensation structure and commission plans to align teams to achieve financial goals and ensure overall success of NSTA in meeting/exceeding its financial targets.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the school districts' priorities, needs, funding sources, procurement processes, and NSTA products.
  • Research district and state trends, competition and funding sources to strategically drive new sales

Relationship Building

  • Build and nurture relationships with state, district and school leaders, content-area lead teachers, and content-area district leads.
  • Cultivates and nurtures key relations with potential clients, vendors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Leverages industry knowledge to identify opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  • Collaborates with internal departments to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to sales.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Identifies and evaluates potential partners to enhance NSTA's market presence.
  • Collaborates with cross-departmental teams to ensure successful execution of outreach initiatives.
  • Serves as a sales lead for key, strategic NSTA partners.
  • Stays informed about industry trends, competitors, and emerging opportunities within the education space. Develops relevant sales and market analyses to support decision making for NSTA.

Revenue Generation

  • Drives revenue growth through strategic sales initiatives and effective sales management. Ability to leverage NSTA products and services and bundle to effectively meet customer needs. Experience with building B2B sales process.
  • Sets and achieves ambitious sales targets, monitoring, and adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Analyzes market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify new revenue streams. Replies to proposals and ensures that NSTA is on states' preferred vendor list.

Supervisory Position

Manage 1-2 sales staff and an additional external sales team as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8+ years of related experience
  • Knowledge of non-profit management industries and K12 education profession
  • Proven record of successful sales leadership and exceeding revenue targets
  • Strong organizational skills, communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Experience managing internal and external sales teams and driving their success by prioritizing responsibilities and multiple projects, providing direction and coaching, and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with AMS/ CRM software, Microsoft Office, and related software
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • High energy, enthusiastic, motivational presentation style
  • Strategic and analytical thinking skills with the ability to balance the long-term objectives with day-to-day tactical realities
  • High degree of self-motivation along with ability to work autonomously to follow NSTA guiding principles and practices
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and be flexible, managing multiple priorities simultaneously

POSITION LOCATION

This position IS a fully remote position.

SALARY RANGE

Total salary range is $110,000 to $130,000 and comprised of fixed and variable components.
