Assistant Director, Graphic Design

This role will manage a high volume of graphic design work with a primary focus on supporting the creative needs of Oregon State Athletics. The Assistant Director of Graphic Design will work directly with the Assistant Athletic Director of Graphic Design to review and establish (as necessary) departmental brand standards, inclusive of a yearly creative asset review/analysis. The position will also collaborate with other creative team staff members to design creative assets and content for all sports, including social media, email, website, print, and coordinate design concept art for brand campaigns.

70% Design Work

  • Individual must work to develop, maintain, and advance the brand's identity through original and creative design concepts for a variety of digital and printed materials including, but not limited to: social media graphics, sponsorship activation content, mailers, posters, graphic templates, signage and facility graphics, website and e-mail graphics, paid media collateral, logos and varied promotional materials. Effectively recommends strategy and industry standards to the Assistant Athletic Director of Graphic Design to develop innovative and creative design elements for the athletic department.

20% Branding

  • This position works with the Assistant Athletic Director of Graphic Design to evolve and refresh department brand guidelines as needed. Independently creates and enhances current branding opportunities. Stays current on branding theory and industry standards.

10% Other Duties as Assigned

  • Communicates and collaborates with other creative staff and programs to generate new ideas.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, applied visual arts, or related field AND two (2) years of work experience in graphic design, social media deliverables, print deliverables, or related field. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Student experience will be considered.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and After Effects).
  • Strong photography retouching skills (Photoshop or Lightroom).
  • Ability to produce a high volume of graphics on deadline while maintaining a high quality of work.
  • Demonstrated experience designing for social media and print mediums, including an understanding of both content marketing and visual storytelling.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to achieve department goals and within the defined constraints of our organizational brand standards.
  • Ability to manage time independently and juggle multiple tasks and projects for different clients simultaneously.
  • Design portfolio demonstrating high-level strategic design sensibilities and strong illustrative skills which translate to supporting our business verticals.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and non-traditional hours.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of working experience in a Division I football program or professional sports organization. (student work will be considered)
  • Two (2) years of working experience in professional graphic design roles (freelance)
  • Experience designing motion graphics for social media and/or video boards.
