Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving (the AVP), the Director, Leadership Giving (the Director) is responsible for leading the frontline fundraising team (Leadership Giving) within Annual Giving as well as managing their own portfolio to qualify, solicit and steward annual donors.

In partnership with the AVP, the Director will operate at a strategic level to plan, initiate, manage, and evaluate annual fundraising efforts that advance the mission of Brigham and Women's Hospital and with an emphasis on donors and prospects capable of making gifts between $1,500 and $99,999.

The Director must possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. The position requires initiative, the ability to multi-task, prioritize independently, as well as attention to accuracy and detail. The Director should be able to work with other departments across the organization.

This individual should be articulate and comfortable interacting with donors and senior development leadership in a positive and productive manner.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director will participate in strategic planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of all aspects of the Leadership Giving program in collaboration with the AVP

The Director will:

  • Develop the Leadership Giving team's fiscal year business plans, help to establish revenue targets, and deliver on goals and expectations set forth in the plan each year.
  • Build infrastructure and organizing principles that guide the team with the goal of raising incremental revenue year over year.
  • Carry a portfolio of highend annual donors to cultivate, solicit, and steward on an annual basis for gifts ranging from $1,500 to $99,99
  • Train, lead, mentor, and evaluate the team of frontline fundraisers who carry portfolios of highend annual donors that they cultivate, solicit and steward on an annual basis for gifts up to $99,99
  • Collaborate with Major and Planned Gift Officers, when appropriate, to develop prospect strategies.
  • Work with both IS and Research to identify AG prospects as needed to build out portfolios.
  • Collaborate and partner with Director and Senior Director on Annual Giving Team to ensure cohesive strategies and tactical implementation.
  • Drive data integrity for the team which includes ensuring prospect activity is recorded in the Atlas CRM database in an accurate and timely manner and evaluating dashboards and reporting to evaluate progress and success of program.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Seven or more years' development or other related experience, including experience managing a team. Experience with medical fundraising either in a hospital or an academic medical center would be strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfortable and experienced working with the Atlas CRM Fundraising database.
  • BA/BS Degree required.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Appreciation for and an ability to articulate eloquently the mission of Brigham and Women's as well as demonstrate a general understanding of various disease areas.
  • The ability to build bridges and strong relationships across the department with fundraising and service units.
  • Enthusiasm, ability to try new things, the courage to speak and act on convictions, intelligence, insight, initiative, resilience, and the ability to act on their own initiative.
  • Develop and implement strategies to cultivate and steward a portfolio of prospects in various stages (cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, etc.)
  • Help prospects identify their gift potential to the hospital—working within the fundraising targets established.
  • Actively participate (prepared with strategies, etc.) at regular prospect review meetings.
  • Achieve agreed upon annual performance metrics (i.e., prospect contacts, prospect visits, qualification, closed proposals, etc.)
  • Maintain and update relevant contact information and information related to the prospect/donor's interest in Atlas, providing updated information to colleagues and for future cultivation strategies.
