Job Summary:

Star Tribune Media Company is seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing Data & Analytics team. Reporting to our Head of Data & Analytics, you will play a pivotal role in defining and developing the data tech stack in collaboration with teams throughout the organization to grow our subscription-based business. A successful candidate for this position would be passionate about data technology, excited to have ownership over the formation of a company-wide data warehouse strategy, and an evangelist for data best practices throughout the organization.

The initial focus of this position will be to establish and define ETL processes, data integrations, data activations, data quality and documentation from a diverse and disparate set of systems to build a single source of truth for our business intelligence and data science. This is an opportunity to develop the core data ecosystem from the ground up for a complex data business, helping to acquire more subscribers, build more engaging content, and market our advertising in a more engaging, modern approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and own data pipelines and data storage solutions, integrating with 3rd party sources and systems to power our data warehouse
  • Collaborate with Data & Analytics team to develop insights and analysis dashboards and solutions from the data warehouse and BI tools
  • Data modeling and building meaningful optimized, reusable datasets
  • Own the building, maintaining, and optimizing ETL pipelines that power insightful data visualizations
  • Build and understand datasets that are focused on data quality, reusability, and freshness
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and solve business problems through data-driven insights
  • Continuously improve data quality and accuracy through data cleansing and validation
  • Clearly, sharply articulate and define necessary data architecture to meet the requirements of the organization
  • Develop and document best practices for governance of data sets

Qualifications:

  • 4+ Years' experience building and working with data warehousing solutions (BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.) and transformations
  • 4+ Years' experience building and developing data pipelines and integrations and optimizing workflows for new features leveraging best practices
  • 2+ Years' experience working with stakeholders gathering requirements and creating data solutions
  • Expert Data Modeling & Manipulation practices utilizing Python, Spark, SQL, dbt, Java, etc.
  • Experience with workflow management tools (Airflow, Oozie, Azkaban, etc.)
  • Experience with sourcing and modeling data from application APIs
  • Experience optimizing data processing performance
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills to work with multiple departments and individuals to reach impactful solutions that serve revenue and subscription growth
  • Tenacious attitude of ownership and intellectual curiosity to push the limits of data capabilities
