Job Summary

The Coordinator, Adjunct Faculty coordinates the recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, and support of adjunct faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University. Leads communications efforts to improve adjunct faculty connections to campus, departments, and faculty. This position reports to the Director of the Lucas Center for Faculty Development.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Works with the Lucas Center to provide ongoing support and training for improved pedagogy among adjunct faculty. Assists with creating a comprehensive, scaffolded program with incentives for adjunct faculty professional development, including accurate record keeping of participation and yearly evaluation of the effectiveness of the program.
  • Works with Human Resources to expedite and streamline the adjunct onboarding process, solves problems, and alleviates delays or obstacles in the hiring process while following university processes and policies.
  • Works to improve recruitment of adjunct faculty, proactively develop recruitment strategies, and create a pool of qualified applicants in collaboration with departments and colleges. Works closely with FGCU Foundation, alumni, continuing education, community organizations and businesses to discover potential adjunct faculty.
  • Functions as a liaison for adjunct faculty with administrators, departments, colleges, and full-time faculty.
  • Maintains and updates the Adjunct Faculty Handbook.
  • Assists with an adjunct faculty advisory board to assess and promote adjunct faculty support and growth.
  • Develops and promotes best practices for working with adjunct faculty in areas of access, communication, resourcing and evaluating adjunct effectiveness in collaboration with the Lucas Center and the Office of the Provost.
  • Coordinates the process of adjunct faculty supervision and evaluation in collaboration with departments and colleges. Ensures completion within expected timeframes.
  • Assists adjunct faculty with solving issues and connects them with available resources for support and services on campus and in the community.
  • Works to improve connections between adjunct faculty and full-time faculty and facilitates a culture of growth and learning for adjunct faculty.
  • Identifies additional opportunities to improve the adjunct faculty experience and works to develop and implement new programming.
  • Represents adjunct faculty in the Faculty Senate or other organizations at FGCU where appropriate. Attends Senate meetings, consolidates information, and communicates with adjunct faculty.
Other Duties:
  • Serves on committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires either nine years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Two or more years teaching as an adjunct instructor at a college or university.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Five or more years teaching as an adjunct instructor at a college or university.

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willing to contribute to a team effort.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
