Job Summary:

The Maintenance Operations Supervisor oversees the custodial/maintenance staff to ensure a clean facility. This individual directs staff and provides training that delivers a high-quality guest experience and a successful execution of all events. The position also assists with general event operations, work projects (at the Fox and Hockeytown Café), equipment maintenance and administrative functions as needed.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises part-time custodial/maintenance staff in cleaning and prepping all areas of the facility and its exterior. Supports the Fox Facilities Maintenance Manager in providing direction to all skilled trade, maintenance, and housekeeping functions at the Fox and Hockeytown Cafe. Assists in supervising maintenance colleagues to ensure all internal repairs, maintenance and projects are completed appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains internal records for maintenance and repair requests and communicates with all departments on the status of their requests.
  • Analyzes hourly labor accounts and assist in scheduling and organizing hourly labor in the most efficient manner.
  • Communicates with venue management informing of any activity or issue during events or at other times that may require attention.
  • Oversees issuance of necessary equipment, supplies, radios, and other related items from the Operations Department. Maintains inventories on custodial equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Ensures proper policies, procedures and budgetary controls are followed.
  • Works as "at event" maintenance staff supervisor. Fully understands facility layout to maximize usage and efficiency during events.
  • Assists in departmental hiring, discipline/counsel, completing performance appraisals, and training for part-time maintenance staff.
  • Assists in payroll procedures for maintenance staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned throughout the District Detroit.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training colleagues; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining colleagues; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum two to four years related experience in a supervisory capacity.
    Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Possess the highest integrity and ethical standards.
  • Outstanding ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with event colleagues.
  • Strong communication and customer service abilities.
  • Detail oriented – ability to keep accurate and detailed records.
  • Highly organized, self-directed business style, with strong ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Must have a good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to creatively problem solve.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working in the sports and entertainment industry
  • Experience working in custodial / facility operations


Working Conditions:

  • Irregular and extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to moderate - high noise level.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent visual/auditory attention.
