Business Controller:

Infinite Sustainable Solutions (ISS) is part of Univar Solutions. This role will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the ISS business and will play a crucial role in strategic decision-making and financial planning. A successful candidate will bring financial insight and data-driven decision-making front and center to the organization.

What You'll Do:

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Ensure timeline and accurate month-end close
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Oversee internal and external audits.

Risk Management and Internal Controls

  • Identify and assess financial risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Monitor key internal controls to ensure effectiveness.

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and oversee financial plans, budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor and report on financial performance against budget and forecasts.

Tax and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Stay current on changes in tax laws and regulations that impact the company

Cash Management

  • Manage cash flow and liquidity to support business operations.
  • Optimize working capital and financing arrangements.

Investment and Capital Management

  • Evaluate investment opportunities and capital allocation decisions.
  • Manage relationships with Univar corporate functions and investors to secure proper funding.

Financial Operations

  • Streamline financial processes and system to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Enhance the ISS PL owners' financial foresight through finance trainings and townhalls.
  • Oversee master data governance to ensure proper MDM quality and change management.

Global ERP project

  • Co-lead the ERP project in 2024/2025 to transition ISS business from Univar's legacy system to a fit-for-purpose service ERP system, through active participation in:
    • Vendor selection
    • Investment Return on Investmentanalysis
    • Key design and work sessions
    • UAT/ roll-out/ training
    • Post-go-live improvement and master data governance

Team Management and Process Improvement

  • Build a hard-working team via effective coaching and training.
  • Drive a "performance with purpose" culture through employee empowerment and improvement in execution.

What You'll Need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting from fully accredited four-year institution is required.
  • 8-10 years work experience in Accounting/Finance with a track record of continual promotion to progressively reach more responsible positions.
  • Solid understanding of source data systems (Microsoft Dynamic 365/Great Plains), and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI); solid Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Working knowledge of financial statements, budgeting, management reporting and analytics, planning and forecasting, cost flows, accounting policies and procedures.
  • Financial modeling skills in Excel and reporting skills in Tableau.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural and global environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of the waste management industry and/or service industry is preferred.
  • MBA or CPA or Big 4 public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Critical thinking framework and problem-solving attitude.
  • Think like an owner, with intellectual curiosity and a strong desire/drive to learn about all aspects of the business.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Highly motivated leader who embraces change and is a champion for continuous improvement.
  • Strong influence skills including the ability to see through different lenses, able to customize communication styles and leagues to deal with all levels and functions of staff and management personnel in resolving problem situations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Strong communication skills. Able to get into the details to understand issues but be able to explain things concisely.
  • Well-versed/knowledgeable of multiple financial systems enabling extraction of data from complex systems.
  • Strong financial analytics capabilities - able to interpret variances and trends in financial data and identify insights and findings.
  • Strong project and program management capabilities.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, changing environment while serving the needs of multiple partners.
  • Effective people manager to build/lead an impactful team.
