About You:

As a vital member of the Vail Resorts Finance team, the Shared Services Team is focused on developing leaders and delivering value. The Inventory Accounting - Senior Assistant plays a key role in supporting all facets of inventory accounting. This position will assist the Inventory Accounting Analyst and the Inventory Accounting Manager in operational tasks and monthly closing processes. Key responsibilities include preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, conducting variance analysis, and handling various ad hoc tasks as needed. Daily activities will primarily involve communication with field teams, managing inventory adjustments, correcting cost entries, resolving transfer issues, and conducting system research for problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute month-end closing tasks by creating accurate journal entries to adjust inventory, compiling necessary documentation to support these entries, and reconciling inventory balance sheet accounts.
  • Engage with field teams to ensure inventory counts are received prior to making monthly adjusting journal entries.
  • Participate actively in team meetings.
  • Provide support to external teams including stores, distribution centers, and regional managers.
  • Assist internal teams such as accounts payable, operations, general ledger accounting, and sales audit.
  • Facilitate month-end account reconciliations.
  • Conduct administrative tasks related to physical inventory counts.
  • Deliver field reporting as required.
  • Provide monthly inventory metrics to senior management.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports as requested.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience.
  • Experience with high-volume inventory is advantageous.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of stakeholders.
  • A self-motivated individual with a commitment to excellence, capable of fostering strong relationships within the organization and demonstrating leadership in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials, Merchandise Management System (MMS), Coupa, and OnBase is preferred.
