Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Community Based Instructor 4 with the Extension SNAP-Ed Program in the Elko County Extension Office. **This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This position is located in Elko, NV, and reports to the Elko County Extension Educator.

The major purpose of this job is to plan, implement, oversee, and help evaluate the activities of the SNAP-Ed workplan including direct education, community events and policy, systems and environmental approaches implemented in community-based sites serving SNAP-eligible Nevadans (e.g., youth, adults) as directed by the state level SNAP-Ed administrative team (Principal Investigator, coordinators) and with input from the Nutrition Specialists. This position will receive immediate programmatic support from its supervisor, the local Extension Educator. The Community Based Instructor 4 will work with SNAP-eligible populations based on community needs and grant priorities. Direct education programming includes direct education related to nutrition and physical activity to SNAP-eligible audiences at SNAP-Ed-eligible sites. Policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) programming includes establishing partnerships in the community and with implementing sites, identifying a wellness champion at each site, coordinating and facilitating environmental assessments of sites, creating action plans, suggesting allowable interventions to address environmental findings, and assessing the sustainability of sites and impacts of interventions with support from grant faculty.

Required Qualifications
  • This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent education and four (4) years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
A valid Class "C" Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

This position requires candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check.

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
