Your Opportunity
Reporting to the Business Leader (BL), the Sector Leader (SL) for Residential Land Development within Community Development (CD) is a seller-doer responsible for leading the pursuit and delivery of excellent project work for our residential developer clients. Accountable for the top line, the SL leads the growth of the sector across North America to advance Stantec's market position. The SL is responsible for building strong client relationships both internally and externally and ensuring that we deliver excellent work to our clients:
innovative design solutions with projects that exceed expectations and grow Stantec's market position.
This role serves both our external clients and internal teams as a thought leader, subject matter expert, internal champion, external face, and brand ambassador. We believe all our leaders should remain engaged in projects and contribute in a meaningful way to making our clients more successful. Working with the Regional Business Leaders (RBLs), Regional Leaders, and marketing, the SL develops and leads marketing and business development (M&BD) plans to meet sector and regional sales targets, win new opportunities, maintain, and grow key clients, attract and retain talent, and establish a strong brand in select markets. The SL should be an expert in master planned communities from the point of view of not their discipline, but rather as a fulsome land development consultant.
It is the expectation that all leadership roles have a maximum term of five years, with the opportunity to reevaluate at the end of the term for the purpose of succession and company growth.
Your Key Responsibilities
What the First 18-Months of Success Looks Like:
  • Implement the 2024 and 2025 sector strategy and business plan that aligns with regional business plans
  • Responsible for achieving yearly Sector sales goal
  • Identify and map the Land Development Residential sales force and delivery leads for each of the six geographic regions within CD
  • Complete a minimum of 10 client feedback surveys to inform go-to-market activities
  • Engage Pune for a minimum of 5% of the overall Sector net revenue
  • Achieve minimum direct utilization target of 20-30%
  • Manage and direct the top ten pursuit list for the Sector to achieve wins and ensure an appropriate return on investment is achieved relative to our M&BD spend
  • Provide oversight of K land development residential K accounts
  • Develop a prospecting list of K0 national or large regional clients based on ideal customer profile analysis and then develop a pursuit strategy for each

Essential Functions:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry stakeholders, positioning the company as a trusted advisor and thought leader within the sector
  • Collaborate with other CD SLs, RBLs, Project Managers (PMs), BC Practice Leaders (BCPLs) and RLs to drive business growth.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and developments, and leverage this knowledge to develop innovative solutions that address client needs
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for thought leadership and business development, such as speaking engagements, publications, and partnerships
  • Be personally involved in key client relationships, strategic project pursuits and major project leadership within the Sector.
  • Lead a team of key practitioners who are the sub-sector and geographic sector leads across North America, providing strategy, guidance, and support to ensure high-quality work and client satisfaction.
  • Develop marketable products, which can be scale-up across North American regions to help win more work and differentiate Stantec from competitors.
  • Collaborate with the Infrastructure Innovation Leader and Office of Innovation to develop and mature digital Products, where applicable, and their use in the sales process and delivery of engagements.
  • Work with the local CD offices and the Infrastructure Innovation Lead to transform and augment the use of data analytics/digital tools that enhance our ability to provide better decision-making for our client's urban projects. Advocate for building the internal culture that supports delivering the best product.
  • Develop ideal client profiles, value management best practices, and executive briefing decks (i.e., go to market best practice and trends guides) to support the sector and geographic leads.
Client Focus:
  • Responsible for exceeding client expectations through strong account management across the Sector and personally leading an account for one of the Business Line's major urban clients to drive growth in the sector.
  • Drives the client relationship strategy within the Sector, working with RBLs, Business Center Practice Leaders (BCPLs), and Business Center Operations Leaders (BCOLs) to drive strong results in the client satisfaction survey within the respective BCs.
  • Sets the tone among all leaders in the Sector focused on effective business development, excellent project delivery, and strong Collaboration across all BLs.
  • Increases visibility of Stantec by sharing our knowledge and innovation story through key client and organization engagements and social media to enhance our reputation and drive revenue.
  • Partners with other SLs, RBLs, and BC leaders to drive collaboration on pursuits across geographies and business lines.
  • Responsible for utilizing and ensuring the opportunity Pipeline is maintained and monitor to optimize business development plans.
  • Accountable with the RBLs to achieve organic growth targets of the Sector set by the BL and BOU Leader annually.
Project Focus:
  • Individually pursue and lead significant projects within the Sector.
  • Actively participate, including contribution to written content, in major projects in key roles such as Independent Technical Reviewer, as required.
  • Oversee risk management related to projects and pursuits including review of contracts, fees, and proposals on large pursuits and in coordination with the BOURC.
Sector and People Leadership:
  • Inspires, motivates, and holds the team accountable for the delivery of innovative design solutions.
  • Responsible for driving project excellence within the Sector.
  • Act as a highly regarded leader within the Sector, thought partner and a source of counsel and advice for the RBLs, BCPLs, and BCOLs as well as public sector and private sector staff.
  • Act as an industry thought leader and promote the North American practice, representing the company in local and national industry associations.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to reinforce and further develop Stantec's high performance culture with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.
  • Uphold a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices, encourages individual integrity, and focuses on customer and service delivery.
  • Provide support through ongoing collaboration with BOU Operations, RBLs, RLs and BCOLs regarding resolution of operational issues identified within the Sector.
Business Development and Collaboration:
  • Responsible for achieving a yearly Sector sales goal in support of the overall Infrastructure strategy and growth expectations.
  • Responsible for developing and managing the M&BD plan and Top 10/Next 10 Pursuit list for the Sector to achieve wins and ensure an appropriate ROI is achieved relative to our M&BD spend
  • Ensure collaboration and best practices focused on consistently winning new work within the business line including cross selling.
  • Actively contributes to win strategies and successful project execution and becomes involved at a hands-on level in key pursuits as needed and on projects should issues impacting client satisfaction or project management best practices
  • Leads growth of the Sector through developing and leading the business development, key pursuit and Top 10/Next 10 sales strategy to expand our reach and client base utilizing strong marketing, business development, and sales account management plans.
  • Lead and participate in pursuits and campaigns for major BC opportunities within the Sector. Partner with sector and business line marketing to achieve growth goals, build the brand, and win top pursuits.
Financial Management:
  • Responsible for developing a Sector annual business plan and budget, outlining the vision, focus, strategy, and priorities for implementation, and setting specific goals in support of the overall Business Line.
  • Work directly with the BL, RBLs, SLs, BCPLs, and BCOLs to meet net revenue, gross margin, Sales Goals, and Global Design Center Pune targets in support of the overall BL and RBL Business Plan.
  • Responsible for implementing efficiencies to improve project delivery
Health and Safety:
  • Promote compliance with regulatory requirements and the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment & Sustainability management system.
  • Accountable for achieving a Sector LISI floor of 1 .0 and goal of 2.0.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in either Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Design, Architecture, or a related field
  • Advanced Planning, Urban Design, Engineering or Architecture degree is preferred
  • Registered Professional - Engineering, Architecture, Planning or other related field.
  • 15 years' experience with a minimum of 5 years as a PM in relevant sector related projects (public or private sector)
  • Experience successfully developing client relationships, winning work, and delivering projects for a range of clients in the sector.

Summary:
