About the College

The College of Arts & Sciences is composed of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Biological Sciences ) is a community of faculty, students, and staff committed to teaching and training students, producing innovative research that advances basic and applied sciences, and engaging with the public. As one of the largest programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, we offer three undergraduate degrees to more than 1300 students, and three MS degrees and a doctoral degree to approximately 125 graduate student trainees. Our 42 faculty conduct cutting-edge research across all levels of biology, spanning from how we as individuals learn and teach about biology to the cells, systems, and organisms that make up our global biosphere. We serve students through online and face-to-face learning and research opportunities.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Engage in the advancement of scientific knowledge through research and scholarship.
Publish in good quality peer-reviewed journals.
Present research at National and International meetings.
Submit grant proposals to external competitive funding agencies such as NSF and NIH.
Develop and deliver an up-to-date curriculum in Microbiology and Microbial Genetics
Provide individual support, feedback, and advice to undergraduate and graduate students.
Mentor undergraduate and graduate research students.
Serve on and direct Graduate Student committees.
Coordinate teaching with the department's curriculum goals.
Perform professional service by reviewing papers, grants, serving on editorial boards, etc.
Work with varied student populations at the undergraduate and graduate levels across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Service is a standard component of faculty efforts. Faculty are expected to become involved in Department/School/Area, College, and university committees over time and develop opportunities that allow participation on review panels and editorial boards and to referee journal articles.

TTU faculty are responsible for maintaining a safe environment in their research laboratories, offices, field sites, studios, classrooms and performance spaces. Through our Environmental Health and Safety program, the university provides faculty with a range of resources for promoting a culture of safety among their co-workers. Review of these safety expectations is to be a part of each annual faculty review.

Faculty Qualifications

A PhD or comparable terminal degree in biology/microbiology/genetics or a closely related field is required.
A record of peer-reviewed research in any area of microbial genetics including metagenomics, microbial genetics, dynamics, and interactions.
Commitment to teach both general and specialized courses within microbial genetics.
