Assistant Professor of Visual Impairment

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated individual to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor of Visual Impairment in the Department of Special Education at Texas Tech University. This tenure-track position will contribute to the growth and development of our Visual Impairment program, which is accredited by the Texas Education Agency and the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

About the Position

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate courses in visual impairment, advising and mentoring students, and participating in research and service activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong research agenda in visual impairment education, experience in teaching visual impairment courses at the university level, and a commitment to collaborating with faculty across disciplines to engage in rigorous and theoretically grounded research approaches.

Responsibilities
  • Teach graduate courses in visual impairment
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Participate in research and service activities
  • Establish and maintain a rigorous research agenda
  • Actively participate in service for Department, College, and University committees
  • Develop and foster partnerships with school districts, regional and state agencies, and other stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field
  • EC-12 teaching experience in visual impairment and visual impairment teacher certification
  • Evidence of a potential emerging research agenda in visual impairment
  • Commitment to collaborating with program faculty to meet program needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching visual impairment courses at the university level
  • Certification in orientation and mobility or being open to obtaining certification in orientation and mobility
  • Evidence of a clear research agenda in visual impairment education
  • Evidence of participation in professional organizations at local, state, national, and international levels
