Job Summary:
Cat Digital's Advanced Diagnostics within the Aftermarket Analytics team is looking for a talented and motivated Senior Data Scientist to help solve business challenges using advanced analytical methods. The Senior Data Scientist on the Advanced Diagnostics team will be tasked with enabling services growth by collaborating with other Cat Digital and business teams to maximize the value extraction of our digital products and services.
The Senior Data Scientist will lead a project using various data domains including but not limited to dealer and customer information, service offerings from equipment troubleshooting to fluids analysis, workorders, and warranty.
Candidates for this position will be exhibit strong communication skills with an ability to explain complex conclusions to business partners, a penchant for innovation, strong initiative, and interpersonal skills.
What You Will Do:
The principal responsibility of the Senior Data Scientist is to work as a technical leader to a multi-person analytics team. This role offers a perfect blend of independent work and collaboration with the autonomy to lead specific aspects of projects while also working alongside team members to tackle larger challenges.
- The Senior Data Scientist will leverage existing expertise in data cleaning, analysis, quantitative analytic methods, and modeling to tackle complex issues.
- Utilize various data science methods, such as machine learning, statistical modeling, and causal inference, to gain insights, optimize, and generate measurable business value.
- Develop good networks within the technical community to enable technical solutions, obtain resources and cooperation needed, and remove roadblocks so that they can ensure the success of their team.
- Mentors and develops the capabilities and organizational knowledge of more junior data scientists.
- Challenges include meeting expectations in delivering results, learning to refine solutions to better fit complex situations, making timely decisions, and communicating effectively with all project stakeholders.
What You Will Have:
- Analytical Thinking: Extensive ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems; Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis.
- Data Cleaning, Analysis, and Preparation: Working knowledge in conducting exploratory data analysis to extract meaningful patterns, trends, and insights from complex datasets, including data mining and cleaning initiatives and writing, debugging and implementing queries involving multiple tables or databases.
- Machine Learning: Knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services. Experience completing specific tasks and initiatives utilizing machine learning technologies, such as classification, regression, or optimization and specific tools and techniques to process descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Programming Languages: Experience and fluency with data querying languages (SQL), scripting languages (Python), and statistical/mathematical software packages.
- Collaboration & Effective Communication: Extensive experience working closely with cross-functional teams, providing data-driven insights and collaborating on projects to solve business challenges.
Considerations for Top Candidates:
- Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree preferably in statistics, applied mathematics, data science or a similar field with quantitative coursework
- Typically, 6-9+ years of professional experience utilizing quantitative analysis, or a Master's degree and 4-6+ years of experience, or a PhD and 2-3+ years of experience in one of the associated fields
- Experience in digital products domains
- Experience leading analytics projects connecting data from various business domains and providing insights to streamline business processes
- Practical knowledge of cloud computing and software development for building solutions in cloud environments (Azure - preferred, Snowflake, AWS, etc.)
- Practical experience developing and successfully deploying predictive and/or prescriptive analytics solutions and productionizing machine learning models
- Working experience with Python using Jupyter Notebooks, libraries & packages (typically 3+ years)
- Experience with advanced data analysis and statistical methods such as regression and hypothesis testing
- Practical applications of machine learning techniques, such as Collaborative Filtering and Clustering
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills and evidence of continuous learning in the analytics field
- Strong focus on continual learning in the analytics field and demonstrates initiative to research and apply new methods to exceed customer expectations
- Experience with API development to integrate and interact with digital applications and to extract and process data from APIs efficiently and effectively
- Experience with graph databases to model and query complex relationships in data
- Experience with developing and implementing Natural language processing algorithms and models to extract insights from large volumes of textual data and utilizing advanced techniques in text mining to enhance data analysis processes
- Have excellent communication skills with ability to explain conclusions to business partners and to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group
