Job Title: Underwriter at ParetoHealth

ParetoHealth is on the lookout for a meticulous and dedicated Underwriter to join our exceptional team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in evaluating and overseeing the risks linked to self-funded and fully insured health plans utilizing stoploss insurance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in analyzing health risks and devising stoploss strategies that are in line with our commitment to delivering innovative and cost-efficient healthcare solutions to our clients.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate the underwriting process by utilizing a top-tier captive offering to create profitable stoploss proposals for potential captive members.
  • Conduct initial risk evaluations of potential Pareto captive members, who currently have both fully insured and self-funded health plans, to aid in establishing suitable stoploss coverage levels and premiums.
  • Assist in scrutinizing healthcare data, such as claims and utilization patterns, to predict potential risks and cost consequences.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team to provide consultants with essential financial information needed to join the captive.
  • Adjust to working within an environment with partial information available.
  • Stay updated on competitive market dynamics and react accordingly.
  • Function under the guidance of senior underwriters to enhance underwriting capabilities and knowledge.
  • Engage in continuous training to cultivate a deeper comprehension of medical treatments and estimated costs in partnership with the clinical risk team.
  • Guarantee adherence to industry standards and legal prerequisites in all underwriting decisions and practices.
Skills & Qualifications Required:
  • Holder of a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, actuarial science, or a related discipline; possessing relevant professional certifications is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of underwriting experience, with a preference for exposure to stoploss insurance and health risks. Familiarity with captives is a bonus but not mandatory.
  • Basic proficiency in underwriting software, data analysis tools, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Aptitude for analyzing data, identifying patterns, and supporting underwriting decisions.
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities, with the skill to convey technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Team player who can operate efficiently in a dynamic and collaborative setting.
  • Foundational knowledge of stoploss products, self-funding, healthcare industry trends, and the regulatory environment.
