The Foster School of Medicine (FSOM) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as its Department Chair of Family and Community Medicine. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Chair will serve as the academic and clinical leader to implement and enhance education, scholarship, clinical service, and academically‐related public service.
TTUHSC El Paso is experiencing vibrant growth. TTUHSC El Paso consists of the Foster School of Medicine, the Hunt School of Nursing, the Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the new Hunt School of Dental Medicine. For over 50 years, the Department of Family and Community Medicine has had a presence in El Paso with a commitment to training highly qualified and compassionate physicians. In 2017, a second clinical site for family medicine was established in northwest El Paso, and now there are two separately accredited family medicine residency programs (8 residents per year and 6 residents per year respectively) as well as a sports medicine
fellowship program (two fellows per year).
The department faculty provide clinical service through Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso, the University's medical practice group, in two ambulatory clinics. Inpatient services are provided at the university's hospital partners. The University Medical Center (UMC) of El Paso, TTUHSC El Paso's primary teaching hospital, serves as the only Level I trauma center in a 300‐mile radius and has a level IV maternal care designation. The Hospitals of Providence – Transmountain Campus is a 106‐bed full‐service hospital in northwest El Paso, adjacent to the University's newest medical office. Faculty also maintain a presence at the El Paso Children's Hospital. The department has a research program in primary care and population health research, with a portfolio of over $20 million in grant funding, including recent awards for cancer prevention and control from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).
El Paso is the 6th largest city in Texas, the 22nd largest city in the U.S., and consistently ranks as one of the safest, fastest growing, and best places to live in the nation. The El Paso community enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year, and has numerous outdoor and cultural pursuits. The Franklin Mountains State Park, one of the largest U.S. urban parks, bisects the city and offers easy access to hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and camping within the city limits. El Paso is home to an international airport, Ft. Bliss, the Sun Bowl, Division I athletics, historic sites, museums, minor league baseball, pro soccer, Broadway series, symphony, and a classic film festival.

• MD or DO degree
• Texas Medical License, or eligibility for Texas Medical Licensure
• Current board certification in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine
• Qualifications for faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or higher
• Leadership experience as a department chair, vice chair, division chief, medical director, or program director or other comparable experience
