Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Department Chair to lead our Family Medicine department at TTUHSC. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a vision for the department, providing leadership to enhance scholarship, education, patient care, and academically-related public service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the department to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the department's faculty, staff, and students to ensure the delivery of high-quality education, research, and patient care services.
  • Collaborate with other departments and institutions to promote interdisciplinary research and education.
  • Develop and manage the department's budget to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop faculty and staff to ensure the department's continued growth and success.
  • Engage in clinical practice and provide leadership in the department's clinical programs.
  • Participate in and promote excellence in undergraduate and graduate medical education.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community-based and university-based partners to promote the department's mission and goals.
  • Engage in research and scholarship to advance the field of family medicine.
Requirements
  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Texas medical license, or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
  • Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
  • Emerging regional or national reputation in family medicine.
  • Leadership experience at the level of Department Chair, Vice-Chair, Division Chief, Medical Director, Program Director, or other comparable experience.
  • Experience as a practicing clinician in an academic medical center.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A distinguished record of clinical care, teaching, and scholarship with national stature.
  • Experience and understanding of undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education program requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well within and outside the department, including senior leadership, clinical partners, and the community.
  • Experience in recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and developing faculty, staff, and fellows/residents.
  • Master's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, medical management, or equivalent administrative experience.
  • Experience in managing quality outcomes for patient care services.
  • Experience in growing revenue, meeting budgets, assessing clinical and economic performance, and strengthening a department.
  • Experience in or a willingness to learn philanthropy pertinent to an academic department.
  • Established national reputation for the rank of Professor.
