Remote, Oregon, United States Cortex Full time

About Cortex

Cortex is an Internal Developer Portal built to accelerate the path to engineering excellence. Docker, Adobe, and Xero use Cortex to auto-catalog, continuously score, and assign action to improve software, reduce response time, and increase developer productivity.

Location

We're fully remote and welcome candidates from anywhere in the US We have quarterly offsites where we fly the whole team out to meet in person, build stronger relationships, kick off important projects, and have fun

The Team

We're a small but mighty group of 90+ passionate individuals excited about building a product that developers love. We've raised $53M in total funding with our latest Series B led by IVP and Sequoia Capital. You can read more about it here.

Job Summary

Microservices and containerization have made it possible for many developers to work in parallel. But knock-on effects like information sprawl, orphaned software, missing runbooks, inconsistent builds, and bottlenecks to production are quickly cannibalizing any gains these new frameworks provide.

We're looking for someone that understands the gravity of this particular point in our technology timeline, and wants to be at the forefront of helping engineering teams rethink their approach to building, maintaining, and deploying healthy software.

As Senior Technical Product Marketer at Cortex, you won't just market a product (though you'll do that too), you'll help to reframe a problem, redefine a category, and reshape an industry. If you find yourself enthused, but with a bit of skepticism at that last line, you're just the person I'm looking for.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll collaborate with product and engineering to bring new features to market, and bring market insights back to these teams for roadmap refinement. You'll perform deep industry research to inform our go-to-market strategy, pulling out the most poignant topics to inform your content strategy. And you'll lean on our expert team of solutions engineers for customer insight, just as much as they'll lean on you for education and alignment. You'll read, you'll write, you'll teach, you'll learn. And you'll be measured on things like web inquiries, sales-qualified opportunities, deal velocity, competitive wins, and new market penetration.

Responsibilities

  • Be the first deep product SME in Marketing. We're fortunate to have a growing DevRel team, but while their job is to be an expert on the wider problems faced by our audience, your job is to be the unrivaled expert on how our product helps.
  • Partner with the PMM Lead and the Head of Sales Engineering on demo creation, certification, and constant optimization.
  • Use your deep understanding of customer and market needs to plan and develop technical content that answers top market questions, outlines frequent use cases, and details how Cortex works.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to manage the technical requirements of product launches, like ensuring the user journey we're building for is served by how our product works, outlining value narratives, and building the corresponding demo and launch videos.
  • Partake in customer and market research to ensure our customer remains at the center of everything we do, say, and build.
  • Act as a SME for adjacent marketing teams like field marketing, demand generation, and web ops.
  • Act as a steward of our brand personality and tone—guiding other members of the Cortex team towards a unified voice in the market.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience in B2B developer product marketing, sales engineering, technical training, technical consulting, or developer relations
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences. You're just as comfortable chatting with a VP of Engineering as you are a PR agency when both need to understand, "Why Cortex?"
  • Excellent writing skills with a proven track record of technical copy that converts. Solution pages, pitch decks, one-pagers, demo videos, use case blogs... you're comfortable across all.
  • Experience with enablement activities. Sales Engineers will be your peers, but also your primary pupils. To scale that team, you'll need deep experience enabling technical audiences.
  • Experience working closely with new product launches—including market research, customer validation, use case mapping, and content creation.
  • Comfort with baseline data analysis. Everyone in the product marketing team is expected to work with data to test their hypotheses, circulate findings, and determine next steps. Autonomy through analytics.

I'm also hoping you

  • Are driven by curiosity but conscious of the clock. You take the initiative to research, explore, and create conversation—but you also know when it's time to ship
  • Have a bias for working in the open. You appreciate that there's no "surprises" in PMM, and that any good work product is the product of collaboration with your partners in sales, product, marketing, and customer success
  • Are self-motivated, but never done learning. You know where you're strong and where you need to grow. You're not afraid to ask for help.

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity/stock options
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits
  • $400 monthly perks stipend
  • 401k plan
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Gender-neutral parental leave
  • Quarterly team retreats (previously San Francisco, Miami, Austin)

Noteworthy

  • Our job titles may span more than one career level. The base pay for this role is $150,000 to $190,000. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for equity and benefits.
