The Opportunity
In this role, you will have the opportunity to function as a technical specialist and/or supervisor for Federal projects focused on resiliency, redundancy, and reliability. You may have the opportunity to supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity or serve as a technical specialist providing knowledge and expertise.
As a designer, you will perform the following:
- Provide security design solutions for federal facilities inclusive of MILCON facilities such as headquarters, data centers, equipment maintenance facilities, hangars, housing, training centers, etc. as well as intelligence/command centers, generation stations, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) protected facilities, secure compartmented information facilities (SCIF) designs, laboratories, aviation facilities and other types of federal facilities.
- Design security systems with components such as electronic access control, intrusion detection/alarming, perimeter barrier controls, video surveillance/CCTV, etc.
- Produce design drawings, security system specifications, and design analysis documents
- Develop cost estimates and materials list
- Coordinate with BIM/CAD team for drawing production, utilizing Bluebeam for drawing markups
- Collaborate with large project teams and client stakeholders (including high-ranking military officials) on conceptual designs, design reviews, etc.
- Travel to various sites, both internationally and domestically, to collect data and/or attend meetings
As a project lead, you will perform the following:
- Review/mentor lower-level engineering work or assignments for accuracy, clarity, and coordination
- Brief client stakeholders on technical aspects of security systems throughout project development and execution
- Manage assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements as well as establish work plan for projects
Other opportunities you may have:
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating quality/engineering standards
- Provide support to business development or pursuit activities
- Independently investigate and learn about new security system software, hardware, vendors, and related technologies as well as attend related conferences to support business development

The Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. has its mission to provide a full range of services to our primary client base - U.S. Government agencies and departments. With the unique skill sets we have developed during the 100-plus years of service to our U.S. Government agencies client base, we are able to provide one-of-a-kind solutions to complex mission objectives that arise out of specific challenges faced by and unique to these agencies. Our primary areas of focus are: Architecture/Engineering (A/E) Services, Defense Program, Design/Build, Classified, and Environmental.
Preferred Qualifications
You will be assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Thus, the candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC)
- Familiarity with the applicable Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)
- Active US security clearance, or ability to obtain one
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Professional Engineering (PE) – no preference on state
